It’s a gift to see how campus ministers and chaplains are leading throughout the larger church! I got to visit with and are leading at Youth Celebration, and I will be joined by campus ministers from and and UKirk National board member at General Assembly where we will join Presbyterians from across the denomination in Milwaukee to discern God’s guidance for the larger church. And UKirk students are serving across the church as fellows at and as Young Adult Advisory Delegates, too. Blessed be the ties that bind us in Christ-like love. ❤️

Are we seeing you at the GA Event? - On Saturday, June 27th at the PC(USA) General Assembly in Milwaukee, WI, UKirk and APCU will be hosting a reception to celebrate the Presbyterian Church's 299 years of higher education ministry! If there is someone from your presbytery, Synod, congregation or ministry that was shaped by campus ministry, is an alum of a Presbyterian-related college, or you think should learn more about the amazing ways God is working in and through our various ministries we would love to meet them. You can send them this post, or email their information to Ilse Vanwijk at [email protected] and we will make sure they are invited. Academic Year Virtual Cohorts for Congregations - With 20 million undergraduates enrolled in universities across the United States, and more than 5,000 churches located within two miles of a college campus, the opportunity to change the world for the better has never been greater.

If your congregation is wondering how you can minister to your university neighbors, trying to start or revitalize a college ministry for undergraduates or graduate students, or if you are wanting some guidance as you pilot a new program, the Vinery Academic Year Pilot Program might be the perfect thing to help your church take the next step.

Meeting monthly beginning in August, you will be guided through a process of discernment, discovery and dreaming to help your church pilot something new in the Spring. This could be anything from starting a university ministry team with others from your congregation or area, to offering a Lenten study for students (or faculty and staff), to designing an Alternative Spring Break experience, Bible study, discussion group, mission project or worship experience. It could also be a time where you are guided to plan how you can deepen or expand an existing program such as caring for the students who receive scholarships to sing in your choir.

The cost for the program is $350 a semester, and scholarships are available. For scholarship information, please contact UKirk executive director Gini Norris-Lane.

If you have 1-3 people in your church who are feeling the Spirit's nudge to start something new, would find support and guidance helpful, or even just want to learn more, fill out this Vinery Interest Form and check Academic Year Program.* If you are ready to sign up, go ahead and fill out this short Academic Year Pilot Program Application.

*If your congregation is interested in our 2-year cohort experience or want more information, you can also fill out the interest form and Vinery program director Maggie Proshek will get in touch with you.

Summer Series Starts - You Are the Christ -

SUMMER SERIES
STARTS

Our summer series starts tomorrow morning. You are receiving this email because you either said "Yes, put me on the list because I would like to participate when I can," or you are receiving it because you recently participated and I think you would like to know what is going on at Peterson House this summer. If you want me to remove you from the weekly reminder emails sent each Tuesday prior to the Wednesday morning session just let me know and I will update that on our side.

This series invites us into the world of Peter and his walk alongside Jesus. We hope this series will accomplish several things: nurturing time spent in the text with others, increasing awareness of how Jesus and Peter experienced real life together, and providing a space for you to recommit to walking with Jesus in your own life. Not in some kind of distant way that is a discipline of the mind, but in a close way, like Peter, that transforms and sustains your heart. It is the way Jesus always wanted to be experienced.

The call will go live at 8:55 AM EST tomorrow. When you log on, you will find a still image and instrumental music. Let that time help you adjust from the noise in your life to a quiet space. We will open with prayer shortly after 9AM and then move into our time together. Here is a basic flow of what we facilitate at Peterson House:

Opening Prayer
Welcome
Quick introduction to this 7-session series
Brief background on the particular text
Centering exercise
Hear the text read x3 with a silence in between
10-minutes of personal time with the text
Return to hear a few things that stood out
Hear the text a 4th time
Closing song
Prayer (wrapping up by 10 AM EST)

Here is a list of the 7 sessions. We will choose a portion of the chapter listed for the lectio divinareflection that week.

June 17: Mark 8- "Who Do You Say That I Am?" (Mark 8:27-33)
June 24: Mark 1- "With the Wild Beasts"
July1: Matthew 5- "Jesus Went Up The Mountain"
July 8: Mark 10- "Do For Us Whatever We Ask"
July 15: Luke 13- "Sir, Let It Alone"
July 22: Mark 15- "The Death of Death"
July 29: Mark 16- "He Is Not Here"
The Zoom call link that is below in long format and in the button below that, will be the same for each of the 7 sessions. You are welcome to share this email or call link with friends who you think would enjoy reflecting with us.

There is also a website link below the call link button that you can click or share with others, to learn more about this and other small groups we are offering at Peterson House.

Lastly, we do not send out the handouts for our summer series. Janise and I still work from one, but if you really need a handout to feel more engaged just let me know and I will send it to you by the morning.

See you soon!

In Christ,

John
