Performing a hex-banishing ritual
Hex-banishing rituals are practices intended to remove unwanted negative energy or influences, including those believed to be caused by hexes or curses. These rituals vary widely in their specific steps and materials, but generally involve some common elements.
Considerations before you begin
Intention: Have a clear and strong intention to remove the hex or negative influence.
Belief: Your belief in the effectiveness of the ritual can enhance its power.
Timing (optional): Some traditions suggest performing banishing rituals during the waning moon or on Tuesdays, associated with dispelling negative energy.
General steps in a hex-banishing ritual
Cleansing your space: Purify your surroundings to remove any lingering negativity. This can involve: burning cleansing herbs like sage or rosemary; using incense; or sweeping your home with a broom while stating your intention.
Personal protection: Establish a shield of protection around yourself. This can include wearing protective amulets or symbols, visualizing a white light surrounding your body, or creating a circle of salt around your workspace.
Identify and remove the source (if applicable): If you suspect a specific object or gift was used to cast the hex, carefully remove it from your home and dispose of it far away, according to Art Of The Root.
Perform the banishing ritual/spell: This is the core of the practice and can take many forms. Here are a few examples:
The Ezekiel Charm: Open a Bible to Ezekiel 16:6, tie a red thread around your wrist, repeat the verse three times, and visualize the hex breaking as you recite the words.
The "Three Angels" Spell: Light a white candle and place a bowl of spring water before you. Recite the incantation: “Three little angels came from the east; One brought fire, the other frost. Out fire! In frost! In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.” Sprinkle the water around your home and let the candle burn out completely.
Salt and Bread Hex Removal: Place a pinch of salt and a piece of bread on a black cloth, wrap them together, recite a chant about absorbing and carrying away the curse, and bury the cloth far from your home or throw it into running water.
Candle Banishing: Write what you wish to banish on a piece of paper, fold it away from you, anoint a black or white candle with banishing or uncrossing oil by rubbing the oil down towards the wick, place the folded paper under the candle, and light it while reciting your intention. After the candle burns down, dispose of the remains at a crossroads or by burying or releasing them into a body of water.
Dissolve & Banish: Hold a bowl of water in your hands, speak your intention to banish something into the water, visualize the energy leaving, then pour in salt and stir it counterclockwise. When the salt dissolves, pour the water outside or down the toilet.
Post-ritual protection: Consider implementing ongoing protective measures, such as wearing protective charms, creating a protective home environment with crystals or salt, hanging protective herbs or talismans above doorways, practicing regular cleansing rituals, and cultivating positivity in your life.
Important notes
Adaptation: Feel free to customize any ritual to better resonate with your personal beliefs and preferences, notes Art Of The Root.
Patience and intention: Breaking a hex takes time, patience, and a strong belief in your ability to overcome adversity.
Combining with mundane actions: Magical banishing can be more effective when combined with practical steps to address the source of the problem in your daily life.
Shadow work: If you're unsure about your readiness or underlying reasons for banishing, engaging in shadow work (exploring hidden aspects of yourself) can be a helpful precursor to rituals, according to Baguette Magick.
Safety: When working with candles or fire, take appropriate safety precautions.
