When I think of a dwelling place, I think of a home to return to after a long day of work. I think of comfort and belonging. I think of love.

Even more, to think of God's dwelling place, this is a place of peace that surpasses our understanding. Protection and shelter from the storms of the world. Rest for weariness and strength for my soul. I think of a big love that is unending.

So, as the world seeks God's dwelling place, are we the safe place that they need to land. The world doesn't need more judgement or direction. The world needs to know that there is a Savior who loves them and has made a way for all of us to join Him in eternity.

Every time we interact with someone in our day-to-day life, we have the opportunity to introduce that person to our Jesus. We can offer acceptance, even if that person is broken. We can offer rest, as we help to carry their burden. We can offer love, as we walk alongside someone without expecting anything in return.

We aren't God. But He did choose us as His dwelling place, and we do have the power to love in a crazy big way that points people to God. So...can you take me to God's dwelling place?

I bet if I asked ten people this question, I would get ten different answers. Where does God dwell? Where do you go to feel close to God when you need Him? I bet some of us would say church, others might find Him in nature, or in their friends. But if the world is really craving God, shouldn't we be sure we know where to find Him?

God created us for relationship. More specifically, God created us for relationship with Him. Adam was the first to be made in God's image and He was placed in the Garden of Eden so that he could be physically close to God on a daily basis. God spent time with him, walking in the garden.

Throughout the Bible, God sometimes dwells close to His people, and sometimes farther away. But His people have always craved closeness to Him...they have always looked for Him and sought to be near Him. That is still true today. People crave God, whether they can put words to that craving or not, we all have a God-sized hole in our heart that only He can fill.

So, where does God dwell, and can you take me to Him? As image-bearers, let's remember that it is our job to point the world to their creator. It's our job to lead people to the Savior. As you read Ezekiel 40:1-4 and 1 Corinthians 3:16, start to sketch the road map to God's dwelling place.

When the woman met Jesus at the well, she could have pretended. It would have been easier if she had put on her best face, acted as though life was perfect, and just kept going. She was there in the middle of the day to avoid the judgement and the condemnation...she didn't want to face the pain of her sin and position.

Jesus has a way of showing up when we never expect Him. But He wasn't there to condemn her. He never even asked her to change her ways. Of course, He knew all about the life she had been living. He knew the mistakes that she had made, but her sin wasn't the issue, it was her lack of a relationship with God the Father. This woman was living as though her sin and past mistakes defined who she was. She was allowing her failures to steal her joy and become her identity.

Maybe you've been there. Maybe you've made a mistake that you think is unforgiveable. So, we put on the mask and move through life as though everything is perfect. We can't know the love of God because we are unwilling to accept it. We look for things of the world to fill us, but we continue to feel empty. We are defined by our past; we are beyond the grace of God.

Or so we think...

Then Jesus shows up at our well. He didn't come to condemn us, but He does know all of our mistakes. He is here to let us know that it is for those very mistakes that we are holding on to, that He went to the cross. He wants to restore the relationship. He does not call us by our sin. He calls us by our name, and He knows us because we are His.

Today, I want you to see yourself as He sees you - forgiven, loved, and redeemed. Not by your own doing, but by His blood. You are worth it, God says so.

We are all familiar with the story - the woman meets Jesus at the well. She's a woman with a story, not the best story. Actually, it's her story that has brought her to the well in the middle of the day rather than in the morning with the other women. There are things that she isn't so proud of, she'd rather not talk about them.

But Jesus knows her. And He knows her story. He also knows that she is craving more than just the water from the well. When she pulls this water up, she will drink, but she will become thirsty again. She will use the water to cook, but she'll have to come and get more water tomorrow for the next meal. She might use the water to wash her face or feet, but both will be dirty with time.

Knowing her story, Jesus offers her exactly what her soul is craving - grace. She might not even be able to put a word to what she needs, but He knows.

After pondering the question, what do you want, did you come up with grace? This may not be what you're asking for in your daily prayers, but it certainly is what our souls crave from the only one who can offer perfect grace. As you read John 4:1-26, pay attention to how your soul responds to the grace that Jesus offers the woman at the well. Maybe you are craving His grace too.

We don't always know the answer to this question...and I love that Jesus knew that about us. He poses the question to Andrew and John, but then follows it with "come and see." Andrew and John asked where the Teacher was staying, and rather than telling them the address, or giving them a description of His accommodations, Jesus invites them to come and witness firsthand.

Jesus is extending the same invitation to us - to come and witness His life. To witness the miracles He will perform. To witness the peace that He brings. To witness the grace that He is pouring over all of us. He doesn't want us to just take His word for it, He wants us to experience it. Jesus is inviting us into a relationship with Him.

So, this week, rather than trying to figure out "what do you want?" let's lean into the deeper question of "who do you want?" How are you building your own personal relationship with Jesus? By spending time in the Word and in prayer, you can see for yourself just exactly who Jesus is. You can get to know the Savior, the one who calls you as His own. He is inviting you to "come and see."

This coming Sunday we begin a new series called Soul Cravings. We'll dive into the question that Jesus asks his first followers in John, chapter 1, "What do you want?"

This question is asked so often throughout our daily lives, and we often suffer from decision fatigue as we consider the various options...what do you want? For dinner. To wear. To do on vacation. To watch on TV. Or even bigger considerations...what do you want? To study in college. To choose as a career. How many children to have. How to parent them. How to care for your aging parents.

But when Jesus asks this question, we somehow inherently know that it is much deeper than these daily applications. We know that He is wanting us to spend some time searching. So, pull out your Bible, read John 1:35-40, and ask yourself - What do you want?
