On Pentecost Sunday, we had the joy of having our end-of-year Church School party, complete with a piñata. The kids had a blast, and we are so thankful to all of the classroom volunteers and teachers who worked so diligently this year to make our Church School ministry a success. Many years!

The nations did not know the power of the Holy Spirit,
which came upon Thine Apostles, O Lord,
so they mistook the foreign tongues for drunkenness.
But we are strengthened by the Apostles,
so we ceaselessly pray to Thee, O good God Who
lovest mankind:
“Take not Thy Holy Spirit from us!”

The coming of the Holy Spirit
filled Thine Apostles, O Lord,
and made them speak in foreign tongues.
To the faithless this wonder was but drunkenness,
but to the faithful it brings salvation.
We pray to Thee, O good God Who lovest mankind:
“Make us worthy of such enlightenment!”

O heavenly King,
the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth,
Who art everywhere and fillest all things;
Treasury of blessings
and Giver of life,
come and abide in us,
and cleanse us from every impurity,
and save our souls, O Good One!

The arrogance of building the tower in the days of old
led to the confusion of tongues,
but now the glory of the knowledge of God brings them
wisdom.
There God condemned the impious for their
transgression;
here Christ has enlightened the fishermen by the Spirit.
There disharmony was brought about for punishment;
now harmony is renewed for the salvation of our souls.

The nature of Adam,
which had descended to the nethermost parts of the earth,
Thou didst renew in Thyself, O God,
and today Thou didst take it up above every Principality and Power,
for loving it, Thou didst seat it with Thyself;
and having compassion on it, Thou didst unite it with Thyself;
and united with it, Thou didst suffer with it;
and Thou Who art passionless hast glorified it with Thyself.

Have you ever wanted to experience the beauty of ancient liturgical worship or learn about Eastern Orthodox Christianity? Starting in May, we will offer six inquirers' classes that provide a brief overview of the Orthodox Christian Faith.

Classes will be held at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 1320 Masten Drive, Kernersville, NC

The classes will begin at 7 PM and will run until 8:30 PM. Below is the tentative schedule for the Inquirers' Class:

May 19 - Timeline of Church history and sources of authority
May 26 - Salvation in Christ from an Orthodox perspective
June 2 - The Sacraments and cultivating a sacramental worldview
June 9 - Orthodox spiritual life
June 16- The liturgical year and the cycles of prayer
June 23 - Orthodoxy in the post-modern world

As announced at our annual meeting this year, Father Sergio Lopez, with the blessing of Archbishop Alexander, has been assigned as our new second priest. He, Matushka Ruth, and the kids will be moving down after graduation from Saint Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and will assume his role in late June. Please keep the Lopez family in your prayers as they move and adjust to life at Holy Cross.
