Today is Naraka Chaturdashi and Diwali in USA/Canada/West Indies.

Diwali Lakshmi Puja rule:
Diwali to be observed when amavasya prevails during pradosha kala — roughly 144 minutes after sunset.

Amavasya timings:
USA / Canada
• Pacific time zone begin at November 6 2018 8:57:11 am ends at November 7 2018 8:01:56 am
• Mountain time begin at November 6 2018 9:57:11 am ends at November 7 2018 9:01:56 am
• Central time begin at November 6 2018 10:57:11 am ends at November 7 2018 10:01:56 am
• Eastern time begin at November 6 2018 1157:11 am ends at November 7 2018 11:01:56 am
• India amavasya begins November 6th 10:27:11 pm and ends at on November 7th 9:31:56 pm

Average sunset is USA/Canada during November will be after 4 PM. Average sunset in India in November will be after 4:30 PM. It is clear from above timings that amavasya before and prevails after sunset on November 6th in USA & Canada but it doesn’t prevail on November 7th during sunset or during 80% part before sunset on November 7th. Hence Diwali in USA and Canada will be on November 6th 2018.

Whereas in India amavasya starts past sunset at 10:57:11 pm and prevails whole day on November 7th and hence Diwali in India will be on November 7th 2018.

If only the earth was flat then Indian panchang prepared for a specific city will be applicable to everywhere in the world but the problem is that even in India there are sometimes dates differences between Mumbai and Kolkata, forget about using that out of India.

Karwa chauth in USA/canada pacify zone, central and mountain zone is on Monday October 21st 2013 not on oct 22bd. Certain parts of USA eastern time zone may have on 22nd or on 21st. If you are in Greater Seatte area/California/Mountain Zone and Central Zone and celebrating karwa chauth on 22nd means you re not celebrating the karwa chauth on the right day. This is because in USA/Canada's PST/CST/MST time zone chaturthi prevails during moonrise on 21st not on 22nd.

Explanation about Janmasthami dates in seattle.

I got lots of question asking me why mypanchang.com shows Janmasthami in Seattle/Vancouver/Oregon/California on 27th where as in CST/MST/EST and beyon it shows janmasthami on 28th. Many temples in seattle are observing on 28th. I would like to give explanation. i've notice one of the temple in seattle has applied DST twice hence rendering wrong data in their calendar for 9 months stretch.

sunrise on 28th 6:23:23

the duration of the night. 10 hours 26 mins and 42 seconds
hence midnight is 1 am 10 minutes and 2 seconds

duration of each muhurtha in ratrimana hence is 41 minutes and 46.8 seconds
ardha muhurtha 20 minutes and 53.4 seconds

this ardha muhurtha has to be deducted from midnight hours to arrive at the begining of
madharatri muhurtha which is 12 hours 49 minutes and 8.6 seconds (means 00:49:8.6 of 28th morning)

Now Asthami in seattle begins at 13 hours 36 minutes and 10 seconds
Rohini nakshatra begins before midnight hours at 12 hours 11 minutes and 14 seconds (past midnight means 00:11:14 on 28th)

Hence as per dharmashastra agama Janmasthami was on August 27th in Seattle but in CST/MST/EST and beyond of America time zone rohini definately started past midnight hence janmasthami in CST/MST/EST was on 28th August. As per vaishnava siddhanta they don't take viddha tithi and hence for Smartha Janmasthami in seattle, california, oregon and entire pacific timezone belt was on August 27th for Vaishnava they don't take saptami viddha tithi if asthami is unavailable they will celebrate janmasthami fast on navami tithi hence for vaishanva (ISKCON ETC), the janmasthami for them in seattle usa was on August 28th.
