Junia, Deborah, Phoebe: The Women Paul Called Ministers - Dr. Craig Keener

• Miriam led Israel in worship as a prophetess.

"Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances." Exodus 15:20

• Deborah was a judge over all Israel. One of the few judges on whom we have no dirt.

"Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time." Judges 4:4

• Women pray and prophesy in church. Paul acknowledges it, he doesn't question it.

"But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved." 1 Corinthians 11:5

• Paul calls a woman an apostle. He nowhere appeals to the opinion of "the apostles" as a separate group.

"Greet Andronicus and Junia, my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me." Romans 16:7

• Paul commends Phoebe by name as a servant, a diakonos, of the church.

"I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea." Romans 16:1

• Romans 16 greets twice as many men as women, but commends twice as many women as men.

• When God pours out His Spirit, His daughters prophesy.

"Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy... And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy." Acts 2:17-18

In practice, Paul plainly affirms women in their ministries. A universal rule against women's ministry doesn't make sense.

The Holy Spirit is already speaking. The question is, are we listening?

Stay rooted in the Word, walk in wisdom, and obey what He has already spoken. Don’t trust in your ability to hear God. Trust in His ability to speak.

• Sept 6: Pastor David Diga Hernandez joins us for Sunday service.

• Sept 13: Pastor Vlad brings the word, Discipleship Track 101 & 201 begins, and we’re launching our Yakima Campus at 6:00pm.

• Sept 16: Laila Olivera leads us in Guided Prayer at 6:00am.

• Sept 20: Groups Sunday. Get connected and grow together!

• Sept 23: See You at the Pole. We’re gathering to pray for our schools and community.

• Sept 27: Deliverance Sunday. Prayer will be available during both services for those believing for freedom and deliverance.

As we send our kids back to school this week, we have something exciting to share. 🤍

Our Youth Pastor, Zack, just released his first book, Unashamed Clubs.

And this isn’t just a book to us. We’ve watched this message be lived out right here in our church before it was ever written on a page.

Students are being equipped to be bold, share Jesus, and reach their schools for Christ.

We are so proud of Zack for raising up and equipping this generation for the harvest. 🔥
