The Gospel of Christ
The significance of a Bible topic is seen by other vital themes connected with it. The gospel is a very significant topic since the preposition “of” connects it to many things essential to one’s hope of eternal life.
In Romans 1:1 the word “gospel” is joined by the preposition “of” to the word “God”. “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.” This phrase “gospel of God” refers to the divine origin of the gospel. The beautiful truth about Christ is given to us by God, the Father. Paul said, “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 1:11-12)
The gospel is connected to the word “Christ” by the same preposition. The gospel is indeed about Jesus Christ for He is the very heart of the “gospel.” Without Christ there would be no good news. Paul told us the facts of the gospel. “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) Yes, Jesus came to this world to give His life as a ransom price to take away our sins. “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
The gospel is connected to “grace” which also shows its value. “… so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24) God’s grace is the unmerited or unearned favor of God. Man has sinned against God (Romans 3:23) and deserves the punishment due sin which is eternal death in hell. (Romans 6:23) But God loved man and devised a plan to send Christ to be the ransom for our sins. However, a man must accept Christ as the ransom for his life.
The word “truth” is also connected with the gospel. “For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel.” (Colossians 1:5) This verse reveals a lot. It reveals that the word of God is truth. (John 17:17) It also shows us that the word of God is equal to the gospel. (1 Peter 1:25; Ephesians 1:13) The truth makes us free from sin. (John 8:32) Our souls are purified by obeying the truth (1 Peter 1:22). We are born again by the incorruptible word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)
Ephesians 1:13 tells us that “salvation” is connected to the gospel. “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” The gospel saves. “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:1-2) “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)
The gospel requires belief of the facts of the gospel. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) It requires one to repent of their sins. (Acts 17:30) The gospel requires confession with one’s mouth of one’s faith in Christ. (Romans 10:9-10) It requires one to be baptized to receive the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38) Those who gladly receive the gospel are baptized. (Acts 2:41) Have you obeyed the gospel? (Romans 10:16; 1 Thessalonians 1:7-8) Nolan Glover

Right Beneath Your Nose
“These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.” (John 12:16)
This verse tells us that Jesus’ disciples helped to fulfill an Old Testament scripture about Christ and didn’t even know they had done so until later. Yet, it happen right beneath the apostles’ noses, and they didn’t even realize that Jesus had fulfilled Zechariah 9:9. It says, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee; he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a c**t the foal of an ass.”
John tells us about Christ’s triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem upon a c**t of a donkey (Luke 21:35), and how the people put palm branches and their raiment in His path. (John 12:12-15) They cried, “Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.” (John 12:13) These were the things that the apostles recognized later, after Jesus was glorified in heaven, that Jesus had fulfilled. After Pentecost in Acts, when the Apostles received the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Apostles preached that Jesus fulfilled all Old Testament scriptures concerning Himself. (Acts 2:30; 3:22-24)
The Apostle John tells how the Jews misunderstood Jesus’ statement, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” (John 2:19) John said, “But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.” (John 2:21-22) Jesus’ prophecy was fulfilled right under the noses of His apostles, and they didn’t realize it until after His resurrection.
Sadly, many Jews today don’t realize that Jesus is the Messiah prophesied about in the Old Testament. All the evidence one needs to convince them is in the Bible. There is also the evidence of the empty tomb which proves Jesus is the Son of David and the Son of God. (Romans 1:3-4) The Bible’s evidence is right under unbelievers’ noses, but they choose unbelief instead of finding Jesus, the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:6)
Jesus promised to build His church. “… That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18) The Lord’s church is right under the noses of people now, but sadly many are not aware of its existence. Jesus’ blood purchased the church (Acts 20:28) which is composed of those saved from their sins (Acts 2:47; 37-38, 41) and whom Jesus adds to His church. (Acts 2:47)
Biblical evidence teaches that Jesus built one church. There was only one in the New Testament time. (Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 2:16; 4:4) By whose authorization do the many denominations exist today? Surely, not by the Lord’s authorization. This truth is revealed in the New Testament, right under the nose of anyone who would know the truth of the Bible. (John 8:32)
The Lord’s New Testament church exists in Kennett. Right under many people’s noses is a church that strives to do only things which are authorized by Jesus. If any “religious” practice is not authorized in New Testament, we will not practice it. If a belief or practice is authorized in the New Testament we will practice and teach it. The church that Jesus established in the first century is in existence today.
Christ teaches that baptism is also a condition necessary for the remission of sins. (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; 22:16) Most denominations deny that baptism is necessary for the remission of sins. But Biblical evidence is right in front of them if they would consult their Bibles instead of the creeds of men. (John 3:3, 5; Romans 6:3-4, 17-18; Galatians 3:26-27; Colossians 2:11-12; 1 Peter 3:21) Without baptism, one is yet unsaved and has not been added to the Lord’s church. (Acts 2:47; 1 Corinthians 12:13)
Some refuse to see God’s truth even when it is right before their eyes, thereby fulfilling scriptures like Isaiah 6:9-10, Matthew 13:14-15, John 12:39-40 and Acts 28:25-27. Salvation can be yours if you will but open your eyes and follow the truth. Nolan Glover

Obeying God With All Your Heart, Soul And Strength
Most people are familiar with the Bible passage in Matthew 22:37 which says, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Mark’s account adds the word “strength”. (Mark 12:30)
Many people have very loose ideas about “love toward God”. Many think that as long as they have nice feelings toward God that it doesn’t matter how you live morally, and one can disregard what God requires religiously. Such an idea is not love at all.
Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) True love toward God motivates one to obey His commandments regarding morals and all instructions in His word. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
I ran across a passage in the Old Testament which I thought was interesting regarding “love” and “obedience”. Consider Deuteronomy 30:2 which reads, “And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.”
The same expressions in Matthew 22:37 about “loving the Lord with all of your heart and soul” are used in Deuteronomy 30:2 about “obeying God’s voice with all your heart and soul.” You cannot separate love and obedience. You cannot love God without also obeying His Word. Notice that Deuteronomy 30:6 says, “And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.” Again, “And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.” (30:8)
Israel was being warned in Deuteronomy chapter 30 about forsaking God, but they were also promised that if they did three things that God would restore them back to His favor. From verse eight we learn that they must return to God. But there is no way that Israel could return to God without also obeying His voice which is the second thing required. Third, from verse 6, one must love God with all their heart and soul before regaining God’s favor. These verses are tied together in such a manner that there is no way to love God without also obeying Him.
In the following verses, love and obedience are tied together. “If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.” (Deuteronomy 30:10) “In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments that thou mayest live and multiply; and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.” (Deuteronomy 30:16) “That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” (Deuteronomy 30:20)
One of my favorite kings of Judah was Josiah. Josiah had restored things back to the order God required. (2 Kings 23:4-24) God commends Josiah, “And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses …”. (2 Kings 23:25) Will you do the same? Will you love God for what He has done for you? Will you return to God with your whole heart? Will you obey God’s statutes contained in the New Testament which are sanctified with the blood of Christ? (Hebrews 10:29) Nolan Glover
