The “Pastor Dan” Memorial Garden Free Library honors the life and ministry of the late Rev. Daniel Nicewonger, former pastor of First Baptist Church of Kennett Square.

Rev. Nicewonger authored books such as The Journey Continues and Caring Conversations (co-written with his wife, Nancy), works intended to provide a redemptive perspective on suffering and terminal illness.

As members of the church and community visit and sit in the Memorial Garden, they are invited to browse the mini library, which offers free books that help people turn personal struggles into wellsprings of resilience.

Pastor Dan’s legacy centers on the idea that even amid life's most difficult storms, people can find peace, hope, and comfort, and a way to serve others, when they experience a season of a "new normal."

The theme of the Free Library is healing and recovery, and visitors are invited to take a book and leave a book, donating their own copies of books that helped them through similar times.

In addition to books written by Pastor Dan, the mini library will initially be stocked with copies of the following books:

-- "Walking with God through Pain and Suffering" by Timothy Keller. This provides a very practical framework for people facing health crises or personal trials.

-- "Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers" by Anne Lamott--. This is a small, easy-to-read book that is perfect for those who may feel overwhelmed and need a simple way to reconnect with their faith.

-- "Man’s Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl is a foundational text finding purpose amid extreme suffering.

Please join us on Sunday, May 24 at 12:15 p.m. as we unveil and dedicate the Free Library in the Pastor Dan Memorial Garden at First Baptist Church of Kennett Square.

Beloved family of First Baptist,

This Thursday, May 7, our nation marks the 75th annual National Day of Prayer. This tradition was formally established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952 and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Its purpose is to invite people of all faiths to turn to God in prayer and meditation, seeking guidance for our leaders and grace for our communities. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan amended the law to designate the first Thursday of May as the permanent date for this national observance.

I consider this a sacred invitation for us to pause and lift our voices in unity, centering our hearts on this year’s theme: "Glorify God Among the Nations." As we reflect on the 250th anniversary of our country's founding, and consider the many challenges we as a people face internally and externally, let us remember that we are called to advance and enhance the common good as a way to glorify God in all that we do.

I invite you to join me as we seek God’s face, not only for the flourishing of our own community but as a witness of God’s glory to all generations and to all peoples.

There are several ways to engage in this day of devotion. Whether you choose to pray through 1 Chronicles 16:24 with your morning coffee, gather online for our First Baptist Church Noon Day Prayer, take an afternoon prayer walk, or join the national livestream at 8 p.m. (https://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/2026-broadcast), your participation matters. Let us be a people who "tell of His wonderful deeds," ensuring that the legacy of faith continues to burn brightly in our hearts and in our halls of leadership.

Yours With Hope,

Pastor Ace
