Last Thursday at Bible study, our brother Jimmie and sister Ciana led us through Acts 6:1-7 and talked about what it looks like to serve faithfully in the role God has given you.
In this passage, the early church was growing quickly, which led to conflict and needs that had to be addressed. Instead of ignoring the problem, the apostles created a system, appointed leaders, and made sure everyone was serving where God had called them.
Our main points for the night were that with growth comes conflict, it’s how you respond that matters!! God loves systems, and everybody serves a purpose!!
A lot of times we want the “bigger” roles, but Acts 6 reminds us that every role matters in the Kingdom of God. Whether you’re leading, serving behind the scenes, encouraging others, or helping meet practical needs, God has given each of us an assignment. When everyone walks in their purpose, the body of Christ functions the way it was designed to.
We also talked about how serving is not just something we do when it’s convenient. God has called all of us to contribute in some way, and the question is not if there is a place for you to serve, but whether you have answered that call.
We asked ourselves, what areas has God called you to serve, and have you answered the call? If not, why?
Your obedience in serving could be the very thing God uses to help someone else grow.
