A Blessing for National Eat What You Want Day
Bless the foods that comfort—
the buttery, the salty, the sweet, the strange—
the recipes handed down,
the store-bought flavor memories,
the odd thing: Cheetos, or a baloney sandwich,
or ice cream and potato chips.
May we taste without tallying,
savor without apology,
and pause long enough to notice
what truly nourishes—
whether it the body
or the memory
or the community
or that ache particular to today.
May we be blessed with company
to share the bites, and the laughter
and the joy of something
that simply tastes good.
And when the day is done,
may this one indulgence
make space for pleasure,
for grace and ease
with ourselves,
even while we return to wholesome eating.
