October events in the Ripley community include marching bands, antique cars, quilts, a “lady’s night out” play, a former NFL great, and plenty of chocolate in time for Halloween.
Oct. 1 – Viking Fest is a high school marching band competition beginning at noon at Ripley High’s Memorial Stadium.
Oct. 1 – Main Street Ripley’s Car Show is from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Jackson County Courthouse.
Oct. 1 – Kenna’s Greene Center is hosting a Harvest Festival from 10-2. Activities include pony rides and a cake walk.
Oct. 7-8 – The 47th Jackson County Quilt Show & Sale is in the Fellowship Hall of Epworth United Methodist Church. Hours are 9-5 on Friday and 9-3 on Saturday. Admission is $4.
Oct. 7-8 – Liberty Lions Club on Rt. 34 near Kenna hosts its fall harvest from 11-7. Molasses and apple butter are sold. Saturday entertainment features Sounds of Bluegrass and Ridge Top.
Oct. 8 – The Parkersburg Actor’s Guild presents “Love, Loss & What I Wore” at 7 p.m. in the historic Alpine Theatre. Tickets are $20.
Oct. 16-21 – Ten week-long workshops are offered at Cedar Lakes Conference Center. Topics range from basketry and blacksmithing to dulcimer and quilting. Call 304-372-7860 for details.
Oct. 20 – Former NFL quarterback and broadcaster Terry Bradshaw is the guest speaker for the Community Foundation of Jackson County’s benefit dinner. A limited number of the $75 tickets are available. See JCCFInc.org for details.
Oct. 21-23 – Six weekend workshops are offered at Cedar Lakes. Pastels, photography, quilting, stained glass, beading and woodturning are on the agenda. Call 304-372-7860 for info.
Oct. 29 – Ripley’s WV Chocolate Festival fall edition is from 10-2 on the courthouse lawn. Chocolate vendors and activities for the kids are planned.
