Today's message comes primarily from Mark 2:1-12. Jesus is in Capernaum preaching, apparently inside a home. A very large crowd gathers to listen to Him. Among the crowd is a paralyzed man who had been carried there by four friends. Their goal: To get him to Jesus hoping for a miracle. However, their hearts sink a little when they arrive and see the large crowd and realize that there is no way they can get their friend through the crowd. What do they do? They formulate an unusual plan. They "make a hole."
Their plan succeeded due to three "C"s:
1. Concern
2. Cooperation
3. Conviction

What would you have done? Join us this morning at 10:30 to learn more.

These thoughts came to me last evening as I was praying. I believe the Holy Spirit wants me to share them. May they speak to you in the way that God chooses.

#1 BE TRUE TO GOD
#2 BE TRUE TO YOUR FAMILY
#3 BE TRUE TO YOURSELF

May God richly bless you,

Pastor John

"Are we there yet?" Those words reveal both anticipation and impatience. We look forward to arriving at a point of our lives as well as a growing impatience with the fact that it has not come. This is true throughout our lives regarding important times such as getting a driver's license, graduation, paying off a vehicle or home, or retirement. It is equally true spiritually speaking. For about 2,000 years, Christians have looked forward to the return of Jesus. Yes, He is coming again. When? I do not know. No one knows. We will be focusing on Mark 13 this Sunday, September 18 to see what Jesus says about His return. Wouldn't be great if He came back tomorrow as we gather together for worship this Sunday at 10:30?

Abraham Lincoln said, "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother." Many of us can echo that sentiment today as we reflect on the impact our mothers had, and in some cases, still have, on our lives. Let us remember to give thanks to God for our mothers, honor them, and pray for them. Let us also remember to say a prayer for all who experience heartache today. For some, Mother's Day is a difficult day.

He is Risen! Millions of people all over the world will go to church today. There will be splendor. There will be pageantry. There will be tradition. There will also be loyalty and love for our risen Lord. No matter how we choose to worship Him and celebrate His resurrection, let's all remember what He told Mary in the garden. We cannot keep Him to ourselves or stay there forever. Resurrected faith requires us to go out from the comforts of the Easter morning worship time with Him into the world to tell others of His resurrection. He is not ours to hold onto and keep for ourselves. We are to take Him to those who need Him. Resurrection faith is not only for the pew or chair. When you leave your place of worship today, wherever it might be, take Christ with you everywhere you go. That is what resurrection faith requires us to do. "He is Risen Indeed!"

Perfection. What is it? Bowling a 300 game? Getting a hole in one? Scoring a 100% on a test? Everyone has their idea of perfection. What is yours? The religious leaders of Jesus' time had their ideas. Jesus challenged the them and those who listened to Him to ignore tradition and societal norms and be perfect in only one way. Join us at 10:30 this morning as we consider Matthew 5:43-48.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent which is a penitential period of preparation for Good Friday and Easter. Traditionally, Christians will either fast or "give up" something which they will miss during Lent. Christ both lived and died sacrificially so that our sins may be forgiven which provides for eternal life in heaven. The Gospels are full of examples of Jesus telling His followers that we also are to sacrifice for the sake of others as He did. Whether you fast or give up something, I encourage you to spend more time than usual in prayer and Bible reading during these next 40 days. Below are some suggested scriptures for the next few days as we prepare ourselves for worship on Sunday.

Wednesday March 2 Philippians 2:1-12
Thursday March 3 Joel 2:1-17
Friday March 4 Isaiah 58:1-12
Saturday March 5 Psalm 51
Sunday March 6 Matthew 5:1-12

Due to the poor road conditions and cold temperatures, there will not be a worship service today. We hope everyone will be safe and warm throughout the day. May God's Spirit rest upon you and bless you today and throughout all of 2022.

Today is New Year's Eve. As you get ready to say "Good-bye" to 2021, please consider giving an offering to the church. You will receive a contribution receipt that you will verify your giving that you may use as you prepare your 2021 taxes if you itemize your deductions. You can be a blessing to someone else by giving a generous offering that will be used to further our ministries locally and globally. May God bless you in 2022!

The love of God is strong. It provides, protects and transforms. His love was seen in the presence of a fragile infant on the original Christmas Day. Mary's words in Luke 1:46-55 suggest that she had an idea that God was involved in the world in a strong way in the coming birth of her son. We worship God and give Him praise for His involvement in the world then and now. Amen. See you at 10:30 Sunday morning.

Sunday, November 21 will be a BIG day! First, at 10:30 a.m., we will be celebrating Thanksgiving as a church family. Pastor John will be preaching a message, "The Pilgrim Way" from Hebrews 11. An opportunity to give to the Thanksgiving Offering for world missions will be given. Then, we will be gathering at 6:00 p.m. at the Cabery United Methodist Church for a Community Thanksgiving service. Pastor John Mohler will be preaching a message, "Don't Be Like A Mouse". An offering for the Cullom Food Pantry will be taken to help provide food for others for the holidays. "Count your blessings, name them one by one."

The celebrating has already begun. This Sunday we celebrate the 245th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence which is usually thought of as the birth of our nation. While celebrating our country's independence is both fun and right, I believe that it is also right for us to celebrate our interdependence. Join us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to hear more about this.
