Whatever you're carrying today, bring it to God in prayer.

Before you worry, pray.
Before you overthink, pray.
Before you try to control the outcome, pray.

Share this with someone who needs the reminder.

Our Gospel passage for Sunday, from Matthew, is about accepting a call and being willing to follow it, no matter what.

Jesus sends out his 12 disciples to preach the Good News. There are all sorts of dangers and trials, and challenges of every kind. However, then, and now, we are sent to do the good work with the wraparound presence, encouragement and guidance of the Triune God.

Jesus is traveling around to the areas cities and villages. Heโ€™s going to places big and small, and heโ€™s walking into their synagogues โ€” which we know havenโ€™t always been safe and welcoming โ€” and boldly proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God, and curing every disease and every sickness.

Why do this? Why is this so important? Because of Jesusโ€™ heart. Because of Jesusโ€™ commitment to fulfilling his mission of salvation, which is rooted in love.

We can see it here, because the Gospel explains it when it says, โ€œWhen he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.โ€

They were harassed and helpless. We see that today, donโ€™t we? People are harassed, overwhelmed and exhausted. And all of that has led so many people to feeling โ€” and believing themselves to be โ€” helpless.

But theyโ€™re not. They have a choice just like the people who Jesus encountered on this journey.

In our time now, we can offer them the Good News. Jesus introduced those sheep without a shepherd to himself, the Good Shepherd, and thatโ€™s what we are meant to do as well.

Jesus came back from this experience, and what did he do? He didnโ€™t give them the bad news. Because thatโ€™s not how he operates. He gave them the Good News by offering a Kingdom perspective, not a worldly one.

Some people might say, โ€œWow, donโ€™t go out there, itโ€™s a mess.โ€ But Jesus tells them about the opportunity, not the opposition.

Join us at 10 a.m. Sunday as we explore this passage and how that, no matter the challenge, we can carry Godโ€™s peace with us.

Afterward, we will share fellowship and refreshments in Friendship Hall. We hope to see you there!

Christโ€™s arrival in the world was long foretold, yet, even to this day, the love, intention and inclusiveness about it continues to astonish and joyfully challenge us.

He comes as a king, but a very different kind of king, a king not first laid in a royal crib but a manger filled with hay. Heโ€™s not dressed in silks or fine linens but in rough peasant attire. He says he has no place to lay his head, yet he speaks of giving us the abundant life.

Nothing about Jesus is entirely predictable, and believe it or not, we should be thankful for that. Because nothing about our lives is predictable, either โ€” and yet, Christ shows us how our lives, our time, our dreams, our actions all matter. They are valued and cherished. They are part of the bigger picture.

The passage for our Sunday message is from Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26.

As I was considering these verses over the last several days, what jumped out at me was how Jesus ensures that there is a place for everyone. Itโ€™s about belonging and value, and how that everyone has both in the world he creates.

Thatโ€™s an important point, because the people weโ€™ll meet in this passage arenโ€™t among those who were most valued during the culture of that time โ€” or even of ours. They are โ€œsinners,โ€ tax collectors, people who are ill and a grieving father.

Jesus shows them all mercy, deep compassion and healing โ€” whether spiritual or physical.

Join us at 10 a.m. Sunday for worship and an exploration of this Gospel story before sharing the Lordโ€™s Supper.

Afterward, weโ€™ll celebrate June birthdays and enjoy fellowship time in Friendship Hall.

We hope to see you there!

Well, this was a busy week that had a very weird end.

On Friday, bomb threats aimed at the high schools across Lake County led to countywide school closures for all grades.

It was a scary and stressful day, and Iโ€™m grateful that it ended with authorities concluding that the threats were not credible.

Still, there are a lot of questions that we donโ€™t have answers to yet, among them, who is responsible and why it happened. Similar incidents have been reported around the country, so itโ€™s hard to know their motivations.

I hope parents and families will have some deep conversations in the days to come that help children feel safe and secure about going to school. We can all help, too, by supporting the young people in our communities through prayer and encouragement.

As we gather this Sunday to start a new week, our own Carol Dobusch will offer the message, and itโ€™s a timely topic: โ€œBe All That You Can Be.โ€

Carol and her husband, Hans, were both teachers, so they know a thing or two about encouraging others to be their best and to aim high.

This is also Trinity Sunday, when we celebrate Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The service starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, and will be followed by a great lunch afterward.

We hope to see you there!
