The readings today were written for Pride weekend!

Psalm 69 (even the number!) talks about becoming an outcast from family and friends, even being ridiculed for the way one dresses. How many q***r (especially trans) people have to go through this?

In Genesis, God tells the outcast Hagar that His promise of "raising a great nation" is as much for her family as well as the one she was turned out of (even though Abraham was saddened by it happening). God never said (to either of them) that "ONLY you will become a great nation". Q***r folk and the families that we are often turned out of can both thrive-together.

Paul tells us that, once we have decided to discard our former life, and all the baggage that came with it, we can live happily and healthily, once and for all...but you have to embrace if fully. Don't leave the closet door ajar.

And,finally, Matthew's Gospel reminds us that living the truth-our truth-isn't always going to be easy. Until you are willing to risk the enmity of your family and friends, you will not be able to embrace the new ones that await you. It's going to be hard sometimes but it It Gets Better !

A wonderful time at Pride today in downtown Green Bay! except for a little but at the end, the weather was the best we have ever had; the crowd was good, the cookies held out (thank you again to Manderfield's), and the performers were entertaining!

Of course, we had a couple of visits from the protesters-it's not a real Pride unless the nutty ones come out.

Oh, and a couple of media outlets referred to this as "Green Bay's first Pride celebration". What it was, was Green Bay's first DOWNTOWN one-Pride Alive held celebrations in Joannes Park over a decade ago. Credit where credit is due.

Today, we didn't do much with the Psalm, reviewed some of the parallels between the story of Sarah in the Old Testament and Mary in the New, didn't spend a lot of time untangling Paul...but, boy, did we lean into Matthew's gospel!

Then we had communion, with cheese curds and leftover Pride cookies. Because Pride is church, and church is Pride...and June is Dairy Month.

What a wonderful Pride in Appleton Saturday! We met some old friends, talked with many new people, and gave away a ton of stickers! A fun time was had by all. Many cookies were had by all, too!

Looking forward to seeing you at Fox Valley Pride in Jones Park on Saturday, June 13 starting at Noon. We will have a space for people to relax under our tent with free refreshments. We will also have hundreds of FREE pride stickers!! Stop by and see us.

Today, we followed the opening up of the Spirit, firstly as Acts recounts the gift to the devout and the Jews, then Peter telling everyone that it goes beyond them; Paul tells the Corinthians that they must use their gifts together for them to be of any use, and John reminds us that we have to so so responsibly.

So, the blessing of Pentecost, in whatever language (Bi, Trans, Le***an, Pan, Gay...or every other) you need to hear it in. It is still the same message, and it is still for you!

As we approach Pentecost, our readings get more focused so there isn't always the variety that we often have in our discussions. But this week did get us talking about predestination, and foreknowledge; with a bit of cynicism, and a lot of hope.

This week, we focused mostly about Peter reminding us that we were once "not a people" but are now "people of God". Mostly now so many other churches keep telling q***r folks otherwise.

Today, we started off easy, with the 23rd Psalm (always a classic). Then we talked about the disciples "coming out" in their praise and practice of what Jesus taught them. We had a big tougher discussion about putting up with unjust treatment, for ourselves and others. Finally, we talked about Q***r folk recognizing the voice of being welcomed...and how we have to say it to them or no one else will.

Budda also got mentioned in here somewhere, too.
