Mid-Day Devotional: The Heart of Soul-Winning

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise. -Proverbs 11:30 (KJV)

As you pause in the middle of your day, take a moment to remember what matters most to the heart of God: people. In the midst of meetings, responsibilities, errands, and deadlines, it is easy to become consumed with what needs to be done and forget who needs to be reached.

Soul-winning is not merely a church program; it is the heartbeat of heaven. Every person you encounter today is someone God created, loves, and desires to have a relationship with. The cashier, coworker, neighbor, friend, or family member may be carrying burdens you cannot see. Your smile, your kindness, your encouragement, or your testimony may be the very thing God uses to draw them closer to Him.

Many people think soul-winning requires a microphone, a pulpit, or a perfectly crafted presentation. But often, it begins with genuine care. Jesus won hearts because He saw people. He listened to them. He met them where they were. Before He changed their lives, He connected with their needs. The same Holy Spirit that empowered Jesus lives within you today.

Ask yourself this question:
Who has God placed in my path that needs hope? Perhaps the opportunity to impact a life is already sitting in your contacts, working beside you, or living next door. Don't underestimate the power of a simple invitation, a sincere prayer, or a conversation about God's goodness.

As you finish this day, make yourself available to God. Pray, "Lord, help me see people the way You see them. Open my eyes to opportunities to share Your love. Give me the courage to speak when You prompt me and the compassion to care as You care."

Remember, soul-winning is not about pressure; it's about partnership with God. He does the saving. We simply make ourselves available.

Mid-Day Prayer:
Father, thank You for saving me and changing my life. Today, help me to be mindful of those who do not yet know You. Give me a heart for people and the wisdom to share Your love with grace and truth. Use my words, actions, and attitude to point someone toward You. Let me be a witness wherever I go. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Who can I intentionally encourage, pray for, or invite to church this week?

YOU ARE IN A FAITH FIGHT!!!

Don't be surprised by the resistance.

The pressure you're feeling isn't proof that God has forgotten you, it's evidence that your faith is being challenged.

The enemy knows that if you keep believing, keep praying, and keep standing on God's Word, breakthrough is coming.

Faith fights when feelings say quit. Faith fights when circumstances say impossible. Faith fights when the promise seems delayed.

Remember, faith is not passive. Faith is active. It chooses to trust God even when it cannot trace Him.

Remember God’s word…"Fight the good fight of faith..." -1 Timothy 6:12

Whatever you're facing today, don't surrender your confidence. Don't abandon your position. Don't throw away your faith.

Stand. Pray. Believe. Trust.

You are not losing, you are fighting.

Someone hurt you. Someone betrayed your trust. Someone broke their promise. But don't allow a person from your past to sabotage the partnerships God has prepared for your future. Many people are responding to new relationships through the lens of old wounds.

Understand this, you're not fighting the person in front of you; you're fighting the ghost of what happened to you. Healing begins when you stop making new people pay for old pain. Don't make new people pay for old pain.

In John 15:7, Jesus says: “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (KJV)

This verse is often quoted as a promise about answered prayer, but the key to understanding the promise is understanding what it means to abide.

What Does It Mean to Abide?
The word "abide" means to remain, dwell, continue, stay connected, and make your home in. Jesus uses the picture of a vine and branches to illustrate this truth.

A branch has no life apart from the vine. It receives its nourishment, strength, and fruitfulness from its connection to the vine. Likewise, believers receive spiritual life, strength, wisdom, and fruitfulness through continual fellowship with Christ.

Abiding is not merely believing in Jesus; it is living in ongoing dependence upon Him.

1. Abiding Means Staying Connected to Christ

Jesus said earlier in John 15:5: “I am the vine, ye are the branches.”

A branch cannot bear fruit by trying harder. It bears fruit because it remains connected to the vine.

To abide in Christ means:
1. Maintaining daily fellowship with Him.
2. Depending on Him rather than ourselves.
3. Seeking His presence consistently.
4. Living with an awareness that we need Him for everything.

When we disconnect from Christ, our spiritual vitality diminishes. When we remain connected, His life flows through us.

2. Abiding Means Letting His Word Live in You

Jesus did not simply say, "Abide in me." He added: "And my words abide in you."

This means His teachings become more than information; they become the governing influence of our lives.

When His Word abides in us:
1. It shapes our thinking.
2. It transforms our desires.
3. It corrects our attitudes.
4. It directs our decisions.

Many people want the promise of answered prayer without allowing God's Word to shape their hearts. Jesus teaches that the two go together.

3. Abiding Means Aligning Your Desires with His Will

The promise "ask what you will" is not a blank check for selfish desires.

As we abide in Christ, our desires begin to reflect His desires.

The closer a believer walks with Jesus:
1. The more they desire what He desires.
2. The more they love what He loves.
3. The more they pursue His kingdom purposes.

As a result, their prayers increasingly align with God's will, making answered prayer a natural outflow of intimacy with Christ.

4. Abiding Means Obeying Christ
Jesus later says in John 15:10: "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love."

Obedience is evidence of abiding.

Abiding is not merely emotional affection for Jesus; it is demonstrated through faithful obedience.

A person abiding in Christ asks:
1. What does God want?
2. How can I honor Him?
3. How can I follow His Word?

Obedience keeps the relationship healthy and vibrant.

5. Abiding Produces Spiritual Fruit

The primary evidence of abiding is fruitfulness.

Jesus teaches that those who abide in Him will bear:
1. The fruit of the Spirit.
2. Christlike character.
3. Love for others.
4. Effective ministry.
5. A life that glorifies God.

Fruit is not produced by striving but by staying connected.

Jesus' promise about prayer is rooted in relationship.

Notice the progression:
1. Abide in Christ.
2. Let His Word abide in you.
3. Your desires become aligned with His will.
4. You pray according to His purposes.
5. God answers those prayers.

Answered prayer is not primarily the result of learning a formula; it is the result of cultivating intimacy with Christ.

Abiding is living so close to Jesus that His life influences your thoughts, shapes your desires, guides your decisions, and empowers your prayers.

The promise of John 15:7 is not simply, "Ask and receive." The deeper promise is “Stay connected to Me, let My Word shape you, and your life will become so aligned with My purposes that your prayers will become powerful and effective."
