So, during the past couple of years, it's been tres chic to "church bash." You know the litany: "All they want is my money, they are hypocrites, I experience God best in nature, etc."
Then there is the all-time favorite: "I'm spiritual, just not religious."
Without warning, there comes a soul-shredding catastrophe. Hurricane. Flood. Wildfire. Tornado. Pick one.
In most cases (not all, but most) the "spiritual" folks have no one to lean upon, at least concerning psyche and soul. The non-church folks can find themselves pretty-much all-by-themselves too.
Sure, the church has its problems. Most folks don't know the half of it! It's comprised of human, broken people, disposed toward the not-so-great (remember: I'm a Calvinist).
However, in my experience, when the chips are down, the local church rises up. Big time:
Fellowship of Cinco Ranch
Current, a Church
Kingsland Baptist
First Baptist
The Vinyard
The list goes on.
In Hurricane Harvey, words can't express the power, the compassion, the sheer force of the Holy Spirit, in which I've witnessed the Body of Christ in action; hands, feet, and especially, heart.
Really. I've SEEN it!
For the scoffers, the jaded, the cynical: We welcome you. No kidding.
If YOU need help...emotional, spiritual or otherwise...please call? Yes?
Please know that the church isn't a private, religious country club; we're here for you.
On a personal note, there isn't enough social media bandwidth which which to thank those that came to the aid of Tricia and me in our evacuation, demolition and exercise of "kicking-our-stuff-to-the-curb." We love you and we thank you.
Onward!!
