Reflection On The Re-election Of
President Donald J. Trump

Battling melancholic moments is what a lifetime of experiences bring; engagement in enough battles should bring lessons on how to win or lose with dignity and grace (in either state). Fighting because principles demand a response when wickedness assert its agenda over fairness, inclusion and justice is a mandate for me no matter the outcome. Although I personally do not see many redeemable qualities in the President Elect, Donald J. Trump, nor believe that he has enough character to lead a good people and great Country I do hope that America will do well and prosper despite his personal and professional shortcomings. I hope that the primary responsibilities that he has in setting the tone, tenor, influencing policy, deciding on issues of war, peace, general representation of our Country at home and abroad will be better in his second term than in his first. I hope that he will be a better leader in the office of president than a candidate while seeking the office of the presidency.

I personally will do some introspection to unearth why my sentiments are estranged and far removed from the majority of American people who voted for him and who apparently support the positions, policies, and proclivities of this elected personality. Yet, I am certainly not going to be guilty of acquiescence or being silent when lines are crossed, and violations of human rights are made. I am for America’s success; therefore, I will pray for President Donald J Trump’s success. However, I will continue to be a voice of critique and criticism when he in my judgement goes afoul. It is what I must do to be true, fair and Christian! In some mysterious way President Donald Trump may be the instrument used by The Almighty in recompense for the hypocrisy of a Country that is too arrogant to change course, too proud to follow His direction. Maybe the Divine is giving America the King who they think they want, and GOD will break America to prove that He Is King of Kings and He Is Lord of Lords. This saga will surely soon be seen and known!

Presidential Election Voting Experience In Ohio 2024:
A Reflection

The inaugural presidential election of 1980 was my initial experience in American politics. My choice President Jimmy Carter was beaten mercilessly by an actor of Hollywood, California and former governor named Ronald Reagan. I never changed my mind about American democracy, lost hope or stormed the White House; I simply accepted the outcome and lived my life to vote another day and hoped for a better future. Politics has always been strident and controversial in my more than 6 decades of living; but I have never been more cautious and apprehensive than my voting experience today. I have lived in both the north and south in this Country of ours, but today was different. I was literally the only man of color in a community and sea of Caucasians in Warren County, Lebanon, Ohio who clearly supported the republican nominee. I braced myself and prepared for whatever would happen because my commitment to vote is ironclad; in fact, there is a trail of blood of my ancestors leading to every polling location in these United States of America.

If I needed to fight my way in and out of the polling station, I was absolutely ready for whatever happened – but my vote was going to be placed into the ballot box! As I reflect on the experience I have mixed feelings; there is a sense of pride that no efforts and intimidation will ever detour my resolve to fully participate in the process of inclusion which was purchased by slaves’ blood for me! Yet, a great sadness grips my heart that the same efforts which did not want my parents and grandparents to have their say in the democratic process still seek to abscond my GOD given right to cast my vote and fully participate in what America could be! The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments are too valuable, and they cost too much to allow fear, cynicism, and intimidation to disenfranchise my right to speak with my vote! So, whatever the cost I will keep showing up; win, lose or draw, I am voting!

On today Elaine and I drove nearly an hour from Middletown, Ohio for lunch to a Haitian Restaurant. Neither she nor I knew what would be on the menu, but it did not matter to us because the cause was greater than the appetite. Haitians in Springfield, Ohio are the newest group of Africans to be otherized by Right Wing Racist Republicans under the leadership of Former President Donald J. Trump And his running mate Senator James David Vance. Many across the country have been hoodwinked into believing the narrative placed forth by these political autocrats promulgating that the town of Springfield, Ohio is a harbinger of what is to come because these non-white aliens are coming to eat us, our children, Buffy our dog, and Fefe our cat! I cannot stand by, watch, listen and say nothing because Springfield, Ohio is a city that nurtured me and Elaine when we were college students at Wilberforce University. The Church of Jesus, pastored by Bishop Cecil A. Pratt, Bishop Ann Storey Pratt and the wonderful congregation ensured that we ate spiritually, physically, had resources financially, they provided scholarships for us so that we could continue in school and graduate. These folks are our family in every way! Springfield, Ohio and its people are wonderful and receiving people and the Haitian Community from the many reports given by locals are additions to the growth and good of this community. It is my hope that Ohio and the residence of Springfield, Ohio do not let power hungry politicians exploit and divide a city which knows how to practice hospitality! Trump and Vance are dividers, not good leaders, and should be a shame of themselves. The rest of us should find our way to Springfield, Ohio and make a deposit in the Beloved Community!
