A Community of Love, Remembrance, and Action

As Pride Month begins, First Christian Church Katy joins our neighbors across Houston in remembering and honoring the life of Persia Amarra Conway.

Pride Month is a celebration of authenticity, dignity, and the beauty of LGBTQ+ lives. Yet Pride began not as a celebration, but as a movement—a response to discrimination, exclusion, violence, and the courageous refusal of LGBTQ+ people to remain silent in the face of injustice. Pride was born from the conviction that every person deserves to live openly, safely, and fully as who God created them to be.

As we remember Amarra , we are reminded why Pride Month still matters.

For many transgender Texans, fears about safety, discrimination, access to healthcare, rejection by family or faith communities, and the uncertainty of what the future may hold remain very real. While progress has been made, our work is not finished. The call to create communities where every person is valued, protected, and loved remains as urgent as ever.

As followers of Jesus, we are called not only to mourn with those who mourn but also to stand alongside those who are vulnerable. Our faith calls us beyond words and into action—to advocate for justice, extend compassion, challenge systems that cause harm, and create spaces where all people can flourish.

We invite our community to join in remembering Persia and standing in solidarity with our transgender neighbors:

This month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, the courage to be yourself, and the power of belonging. We honor every story, every journey, and every person who helps make our world more vibrant, compassionate, and beautiful.

At First Christian Church Katy, we believe that diversity is a gift, inclusion is sacred, and love is always greater than fear.

Dr. Lisa W. Davison and Dr. Warren Carter will lead thoughtful sessions focused on understanding and engaging some of the Bible’s most challenging passages — including “Tackling Those Clobber Texts.”

Whether you are clergy, a church leader, a parent, an ally, or simply someone seeking deeper understanding, this day is designed to create space for learning, dialogue, and community.

For the first time ever, we have a chance to capture what LGBTQ+ life actually looks like
across the Greater Houston region — in our own words.

The Houston Area L.O.V.E. Survey (LGBTQ+ Opinions, Voices & Experiences) is open to
every LGBTQ+ adult living in Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Galveston, Brazoria,
Chambers, Liberty, or Waller County.

It takes about 15 minutes. It's completely confidential, de-identified, and available in English
and Spanish. The results will help shape the policies and programs in the Houston Area that
directly impact LGBTQ+ lives.
