Thus, with patience, I will bravely persevere;
Through joyful effort, I shall reach enlightenment.
If no wind blows, then nothing stirs,
And neither is there merit without perseverance.
— Śāntideva

Patience gives us the strength to remain steady, but patience alone is not enough. We must also cultivate joyful effort—the willingness to continue walking the path, even when practice becomes difficult, slow, or discouraging.

Just as a sailboat cannot move without wind, our Dharma practice cannot progress without perseverance. We may have faith, understanding, and aspiration, but these qualities must be put into practice again and again.

Sometimes our progress is not visible. We may feel that our meditation, prayers, ngöndro, or efforts to cultivate compassion are producing little result. Yet every sincere effort plants a seed of merit and gradually transforms the mind.

Therefore, do not measure your practice only by immediate results. Continue with patience, courage, and joyful effort. Every step taken with bodhicitta becomes part of the path toward awakening.
