Ascension Lutheran Church KC - Missouri Synod Ascension Lutheran Church is a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church founded on November 22, 1964. One service is held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Pastor Harold H.

Sunday School and Bible classes are at 8:15. The Missouri Synod Mission Board of the Western District originally intended to have two congregations serving Raytown, southern Independence, and eastern Kansas City. Services were first held in the downstairs concourse at the Blue Ridge Mall on September 13, 1964. After three services there, the congregation met in a basement of a house in Raytown on

October 11, 1964. On November 22, 1964, the congregation was officially organized as Ascension Lutheran Church. The charter membership was 137, including children. Luke was installed as the first pastor of the church on February 28, 1965. The present church site was purchased on January 29, 1965. William Merrill Conrad was chosen as the architect, and John Fogel Construction Company was the builder. Building plans were approved, and ground was broken for the first unit on September 26, 1965. The cornerstone was laid on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1965. The first church building was dedicated on April 17, 1966. On Palm Sunday, April 15, 1973, the congregation broke ground for the present sanctuary. The cornerstone was laid Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1973. The dedication of the new sanctuary was held on February 17, 1974. The ground breaking for the Family Life Center was held on September 7, 1997, and construction was completed in the Spring of 1999. The Family Life Center was dedicated May 16, 1999.

To our church family who view the live-streams on Sunday: We apologize there was no livestream today. Both Kathy and myself (Linda) were not available. The person who was going to do it for us has an Android phone, and the connection for our livestream is for an iPhone. This coming weekend, May 17th, Kathy and I will also be gone, so there won't be a livestream of the service. We're sorry for this inconvenience. We never thought we'd both be gone at the same time. We should be live-streaming again on May 24th. Thank you.

Ascension Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 14, 2026. This year, to mark our Ascension Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 14, we’re asking you to pray the Lord’s Prayer throughout the day. The act of prayer, the act of talking intimately with the creator of the universe is an amazing gift. Knowing that He hears us through His Son, Jesus Christ and because of Christ’s death and resurrection, is humbling and awe-inspiring. On the day we mark the Lord’s being lifted into heaven to sit at the Father’s right hand, it’s fitting that we take the words He taught us and approach God with boldness, joy, and reverence.
