Cherith Brook Catholic Worker House

Cherith Brook Catholic Worker House A Catholic Worker House located in Historic Northeast Kansas City. We work to provide food, clothes, and showers for the homeless.

Our daily lives are structured around practicing the works of mercy as found in Jesus' teachings. We are committed to regularly feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, visiting the prisoner and the sick in the name of Jesus. As followers of Jesus we understand our lives to be centered in God's Shalom. Cherith Brook strives to be a "school" for p

eacemaking in all its dimensions: political, communal, and personal, working constantly to undo poverty, racism and militarism. All of these can be summed up as the struggle to connect with the God of life. We pray that Cherith Brook be a space where all of us - the broken - can come to learn and relearn the ways of Jesus; a place to struggle together for God's call of love, mercy, peace and justice.

Thanks to everyone who showed up to keep our community beautiful! ☀️ 🌻

April showers bring... the need for lots of rain gear! We are looking for rain jackets, ponchos and umbrellas! Please, share if you are able :)

Thanks to everyone who made it possible for us to open last weekend! Because the outside temperature was unbearably cold, we welcomed many of our unhoused neighbors for hot drinks, good food, and movies! Pretty great way to spend a snow day:) Special thanks to our friends at Peace Church and Care Beyond the Boulevard for making it happen!

We lost a dear friend last week. Thank you, Angie, for being our friend and for your commitment to justice. We will miss you!!

We mourn and celebrate the life of Angie Stryker, who passed away on Monday, July 21. Angie was a part of Cherith Brook for many years; a longtime ally to Stand Up KC, and a good friend to workers in Missouri. She even recently joined other at the Kansas City Good Trouble Protest just two weeks ago!

Angie brought love and joy to our neighborhoods and picket lines. Her memory inspires us to act boldly and keep pushing forward through struggle with a smile on our faces. Please send your love to her family and friends.

Rest in peace, Angie 🕊️
