An excerpt from Pastor Joyce’s sermon on Sunday, May 3:
“My small group sometimes does potlucks, and there is one friend who gets deeply concerned every single time.
Her fear is always the same:
“What if everyone brings dessert?”
What if no one brings a main dish?
What if it’s all brownies and pie and banana pudding?
Which, to be clear… sounds like a problem I’m willing to work through.
But sure, for the sake of our story we’ll call it a problem…
What if we fail as a people?
every time, she worries.
And every time…
it works out.
Someone brings a casserole.
Someone brings salad.
Someone brings rolls.
Several people, naturally, bring dessert.
And somehow there is enough for everyone.
That’s potluck theology.
No one person has to bring everything.
No one person carries the whole meal.
Each person simply brings what they have.
And when it is offered together—
there is abundance.
That is how the church works.
One person sings.
One person cooks.
One person prays.
One person gives.
One person visits.
One person teaches.
One person fixes things.
One person welcomes strangers.
And somehow, through ordinary offerings placed side by side…
Christ feeds people.
That is greater work.
So maybe the question is not, Can I do great things?
Maybe the question is:
What has God placed in my hands to bring?”
