Here in Minneapolis with a clergy gathering from all over the country in solidarity with ICE out of Minnesota. Participated in a pilgrimage to the neighborhood where both Renee Goode and George Floyd were murdered. Feelings of profound sadness and angered st the utter disregard for the value of human life; the fear felt by people here in Minneapolis, and… feelings of hope, Damian’s joy for the response to the tragedies by coming together as a community, caring for each other amidst the constant attacks, violence and abductions by the ICE authoritarian goons. On this day I choose hope and joy over despair, anger and fear. Look forward to bringing positive action back home.

On a day in which we should feel pride and joy, when tonight we light the first candle of Hanukkah, instead we wake up to news of 11 innocent Jews in Australia murdered in a cowardly act of hateful anti Semitism. As we feel the loss here in Kansas City, a loss we know all too well, we send comfort to the families, and to Australian Jews.

As we grieve loss we are grateful and recognize the courage of Muslim fruit stand owner Ahmed Al Ahmed, who, in risking his own life, courageously disarmed one of the murderers. As we fight against anti Semitism, wherever and from whomever it comes, let us stand with all of those who choose peace and love over hate and violence.

As we light our Hanukkah lights tonight and in the days that follow, let us stand up against the hate, and bring light out of the darkness that is so pervasive.
