For Abraham, faith was not merely an intellectual concept, but rather trust, obedience, and a living relationship with God. Therefore, when the Orthodox Church speaks of faith, it does not separate it from obedience, love, and good works. Works are not a substitute for faith, but rather the fruit of true faith.
As St. John Chrysostom says, Abraham was not justified because he first performed great works, but because he believed in God and then demonstrated his faith through perfect obedience.
