**True Humility Looks Away From Self and Toward Christ**

Pride constantly turns our attention inward—even when we’re trying to repent.

“If I just try harder…”
“If I become more disciplined…”
“If I can fix myself…”

But true humility isn’t found by looking deeper and deeper at ourselves.

**True humility looks outward.**

It looks toward the resurrected Christ and His finished work.

We don’t find freedom by obsessing over ourselves or even our failures. We find it by looking to Jesus and resting in what He has accomplished for us.

Pride has a way of making our sin seem smaller than it really is.

**“I’m not as bad as that person.”**
**“It’s really not my fault.”**
**“What happened to me made me this way.”**
**“It’s not really that bad.”**

Pride compares our sin to others, shifts responsibility, and sometimes even takes pleasure in someone else’s failure because it makes us feel better about ourselves.

But the gospel doesn’t call us to explain away our sin. It frees us to acknowledge it, repent of it, and run to Christ for grace.

Who in your life is allowed to tell you that you’re wrong?

That’s not always an easy question.

When Scripture convicts us—or when someone confronts us about sin—our response can reveal a lot. Do we justify ourselves? Argue? Get defensive? Or are we willing to humbly consider what God may be showing us?

And here’s another question worth sitting with:

**What are you carrying alone right now because you don’t want anyone to know you need help?**

Pride can show itself through independence. Humility is willing to ask for help.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. God gives us His Word and a church family to encourage us, correct us, and help carry our burdens.
