THE VICTORIOUS ROSARY!
Today (Wed, Oct 7) we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary established by Pope St. Pius V to commemorate the Christian Holy League's victorious naval battle over the Islamic Ottoman Turks on this day in 1571.

Prior to the battle, St. Pius V had encouraged Catholics everywhere to pray the rosary for a victory that would stop the continuing militant spread of Islam into Europe and diminish the Turks dominance in the Mediterranean Sea. Against all odds, the Christians prevailed and with minimum losses. St. Pius V credited the victory to devotion to the Holy Rosary of our Lady.

The Rosary is in fact an instrument of Christian victory, as also seen by the incident of St. Dominic receiving the Rosary from the Blessed Virgin Mary to use against the heretical Albigensians, while Our Lady at Fatima has instructed us to pray the rosary for the sanctification and salvation of souls, as well as a remedy to societal ills.

Today (October 3) we commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death, or TRANSITUS OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI into heaven.

The Franciscan Order commemorates the passing of their holy father into heaven with an evening ceremony called the Transitus Sancti Patris Nostri Francisi which have included in our NOVENA TO SAINT FRANCIS devotional booklet.

ST. FRANCIS: HE BORE THE MARKS OF JESUS CHRIST
Today (Sept. 17) we commemorate in the Roman Catholic Church the IMPRESSION OF THE STIGMATA OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI.

On this day in 1224, the Little Poverello was the first recorded person to receive the Sacred Wounds of Jesus Christ upon his own body. While praying at La Verna (Mt. Alvernia, Italy), St. Francis had a vision of a crucified six-winged Seraphim which left the nail and lance wounds upon his body.

This miracle signified how closely the life of St. Francis imitated that of his Divine Master, Jesus Christ and also gave the friar the title of "Seraphic Father".

From our booklet, NOVENA TO SAINT FRANCIS, we offer this prayer in his honor:

SALUTATION TO OUR HOLY FATHER SAINT FRANCIS
I salute thee with my whole heart, and hail thee, O holy and beloved Father Saint Francis, burning and consumed with poverty and with love. The Lord is with thee on the sacred Mount Alverna; blessed are thy sacred Stigmata, and the Seraphic love, and blessed be Jesus Christ Who made thee glorious and exalted thee in heaven and on earth. O holy, humble Father Saint Francis, Father of the poor, I beg thee to assist us, thy unworthy children, now and at all times, but particularly at the hour of our death. Amen.
