Alabaster Ministries

Alabaster Ministries We are reaching out to the elderly of Southern Malawi who are destitute They are abandoned and left to fend for themselves.

We have over 400 elderly in Southern Malawi who are destitute because their children have died from various diseases. The average life expectancy for Malawi is 38 years. These are a unique people group as they are all over seventy and some are over one hundred. We feed and clothe them and build them two roomed cottages out of brick and cement with iron roofing, doors and windows. Many lose their h

omes in the wind and the rain and there is no-one to rebuild for them, leaving them with no where to live. We are teaching them how to pray for their own situation and for the nation of Malawi. This encourages them to get together and get to know each other. We also have 35 young girls mainly under the age of 16 that we keep clothed and we pay for their school uniforms, books and for their school fees. These girls would otherwise have been sold into child marriages or into child prostitution. Because education is so important in Africa they would rather keep children in school than sell them. We rescued a girl of eight years that was going to be sold for a bag of sugar.

We are in Malawi just finishing up distribution to the elderly. The results of cyclone Freddy are devastating. Praise God none of the elderly were killed but many lost their homes. By the end of this month we will have three teams of builders working to build homes. One 92 year old man told us that God woke him in the middle of the night and told him to get out. Five minutes later his house was swept away by the flooding river.
God while we don’t understand yet we trust in you.
The people continue with joy in Him even though they have lost everything. We had grown men weeping when we arrived just because we had come.

We have started to rebuild the church that was flattened during the tornado in February. We are now building the walls double thickness so in the event of strong winds in the future there will be no fear of a collapse.

ROZ HEYNS

This is the escarpment up to Blantyre from the lower Shire. It is a nasty journey on a good day. This is what it looks like with all the rain they have had. Now the beautiful corn that was doing so well will rot or be washed away and from now until next April 2020 there will be famine in the country again

This is the main bridge into the south of Malawi where we are working. After the tornado went through there has been excessive rains. We have been trying to help wherever we can but we cannot rebuild destroyed homes of our elderly whose homes collapsed until the rain stops.
We desperately need a truck to haul building materials. A very good second hand truck is $20,000. Francis just managed to cross this river before it stared flooding over the top.

Two of the staff of alabaster graduated Bible School today. Peter with the big smile is one and behind him is his father who graduates from our Bible School in February. Next to Peter’s dad is Solomon who also graduated and next to him is his brother Francis who is the man who runs Alabaster Malawi.

The continuing progress of the church in Tengani. It may take time to get things started but when we do we move forward pretty fast. This in view of the fact there has been considerable rain in the area.

Windows and doors are in and it is almost up to roof level. Our one big problem is that we have to rent a truck to haul building materials. We need our own for that and for distribution of food and clothing to the elderly. A second hand 8 ton truck in very good condition will cost about $20,000.
