Ignatian Spirituality Center of Kansas City

Ignatian Spirituality Center of Kansas City Guided Prayer Experiences to Deepen Your Spiritual Life. Beginnings
The Ignatian Spirituality Center of Kansas City began in 2001.

A number of laypersons, who were faculty and staff members at Rockhurst University, and who had made the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola, asked the provincial superior of the Missouri Province of the Society of Jesus to assign a man to organize an Ignatian spirituality center in Kansas City. Their request was granted and Fr. Jim Blumeyer, S.J., came to Kansas City the summer of 2001 for th

is purpose. In the first year of the program, 10 people from around the Kansas City area made the nine-month program of the Spiritual Exercises known as the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL); their guides were nine Jesuits and one layperson. Also during the Center’s initial year six or so persons began a training program, which came to be known as Prayer Companions, to develop into guides for the SEEL program. Also during that year the Center offered a four-week prayer program during Lent. Today
Over the past 20 years the number of people making the SEEL has grown to 20 to 25 annually, and the number of people who serve as prayer guides has increased to 40+ laypersons. A variety of prayer programs and workshops are offered each year. Last year about 250 people participated in Center programs..

Our Lady of the Way, stay with us when we grow weary of the journey; for the road is long and our hearts are weak. Strengthen us with the patience and fortitude to continue on in pursuit of a whole and just world; in pursuit of a whole and just self. Come, be our guide.
