Father Mike Hawken shared his words of gratitude for the Servants of Mary Ministers to the Sick and the Sisters renewed their vows during a Mass celebrating their congregation's 175th anniversary at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle on Aug. 15. 🙏

Father Hawken is the vicar general and moderator of the curia for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. The Mass was followed by a reception.

Today was a joyous day for Cathedral Parishioner, Val Lobatos, who made his profession of perpetual vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience as a member of the Society of Jesus in St. John Francis Regis Chapel in Denver, CO! Members of our Cathedral family (past and present) were there to represent all our parish in celebrating this momentous occasion in Val’s life and vocation! Let us keep Val in our prayers!

I am deeply troubled by the recent exchange between President Trump and Pope Leo XIV regarding the pope’s call to end the war in Iran.

The Holy Father is fulfilling his moral duty, as a pastor and not a politician, to promote peace in the world. The retaliatory tone of the President’s response risks deepening division when we need unity. Even in heated disagreement, leadership should be civil, honoring the inherent dignity of the other made in the image and likeness of God.

I invite all to pray that Pope Leo’s vision of peace is made manifest, and all sides charged with the responsibility to govern will find a way to lay down arms, respecting the dignity of human life by working for the common good and promoting human rights.

May the Prince of Peace rule in our hearts. Amen.
