Spurgeon nailed it on Psalm 45.

“Some here see Solomon and Pharaoh’s daughter only—they are short-sighted; others see both Solomon and Christ—they are cross-eyed; well-focussed spiritual eyes see here Jesus only.”

Psalm 45 is a prophetic song about Christ and His story. It does not concern a historical king from the days Israel’s monarchy.

Christ is fairer than them all.

I dive into Psalm 45 this week in the Psalms newsletter.

This is His Story. The Divine Son came down, spoke gracious words like none we’ve ever heard, transforming in their power.

But the story is not over, the Husband of the Old Testament who betrothed Israel will return in majesty and glory when the sword that is girded on His thigh will be drawn in the name of humility, righteousness, and justice, when He delivers Israel, establishes and sits upon the throne of David forever within the Millennial Temple, and the bride is brought in priestly robes wives with gold, to the Most Holy Place.

This story, will result in the praise of His name being remembered in all generations, by all nations.

Sing beloved, sing to your king.

I love how Tertullian draws attention to king David as a “well-known prophet.” And as such, he sang not only “of” or about Christ, but also “as” Christ, when Christ also sang concerning Himself through David.

"It does not depend on whether the Psalms express adequately that which we feel at a given moment in our heart. Perhaps it is quite necessary that we pray contrary to our own heart."

Heart is on fire as I add finishing touches to the final Advent series through

In this final week, we complete the last verses of Psalm 139:19-24, the ones typically overlooked, the yearning of Christ to bring justice at the Day of the Lord, when He returns, a sober and fitting conclusion to and cause for fatty meats in anticipation of the wedding supper of the Lamb (see pic 3 🍖 )

The interpretation of the Old Testament and beholding Christ within its pages are critical in understanding, reading, and interpreting the - this is a must read review of 5 Views of in the OT. I agree with the reviewer, that a significant view was essentially missing.

For Paul, Christ died and rose “in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Cor 15:3–4). Peter said that the prophets spoke of the “suffering of Christ and the subsequent glories” (1 Pe 1:10–12). Jesus himself affirmed that — “as it is written” — ”the Christ should suffer and on the ...

We long to gaze on the beauty of the LORD, and nothing else satisfies, here is why:

Of all the sights in heaven and earth, only one can satisfy the ravenous eyes of man: Jesus Christ in all his glory.

A standing tradition in our home is watching and extended movie trilogies (I know, I know, not as good as the books…moving on),

Last year, a fellow psalm-enthusiast friend of mine, pointed me to a book by Chad Bird] called

It was a joy to read and discover Jesus in the Scriptures with him. My favorite part of the book was hearing his story at the beginning and his insights on the Psalms, but it was all excellent.

Fast forward to this month and my writing series on a Advent in my weekly newsletter, I highlighted how one of the psalms I think of when I think of Christmas is (along with and especially ).

And now, as a great gift to the Candler family and beyond Chad Bird] recently wrote this excellent article on with tasting notes and overtones of - Yes!

Read it over at
cannot recommend it enough.

Merry Christmas.

I often get asked what my favorite book on the life of David is…this one is at the top of my list.
