Rev. William Frank Taylor was ordained Bishop of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ on Sunday morning, September 23, 1934 at 5:00 a.m. at the request of Bishop Taylor. He said that only those who were sincerely interested would get up that early, but if the service were held at the usual hour, the congregation would be filled with curiosity seekers. Every member had to bring his or her

bible to service as we were taught the Word of God. There were object lessons, black board demonstrations and just common sense teachings. Now! Many that had learned two or three bible verses and could recite them from memory thought, as did the Prodigal Son, that they had all they needed to go forth and convince the world that they had it. Bishop Taylor and Elder Boswell tried to talk and reason and show them the time had not fully come and that they had only learned the first lesson. But like most teenagers, they felt that the parents just didn’t trust them and wanted to hold them back. They felt that they already knew more than they did, so a number of little Metropolitan Churches were born.

With gratitude to GOD and joy in the Holy Spirit, the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of CHRIST, Inc. extends a warm and heartfelt welcome to Bishop Gerald Ruffin, Jr., Founder and Pastor of O.S. House of Prayer Ministries and Bishop La'Shawn McIntosh, Senior Pastor of Fresh Wind Restoration Center. The College of Bishops and the Board of Directors celebrate their decision to unite in fellowship and communion with the Metropolitan body. We give thanks for their proven leadership, steadfast commitment to the Gospel, and dedication to the sacred work of preaching, teaching, prophecy, and healing the very pillars upon which our International Congress stands. The College of Bishops of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., having gathered in sacred convocation and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, announces that the canonical process of discernment for the Office of International Presiding Bishop has been duly completed.

In accordance with our Constitution, Canons, and venerable ecclesial tradition, the College of Bishops has elected The Very Reverend Bishop James E. Curry, Jr., as Presiding Bishop–Elect (Episcopus Praeses Electus) of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc.

Furthermore, with profound gratitude for his decades of faithful, sacrificial, and visionary leadership, the College of Bishops hereby designates The Most Reverend James D. Tindall, Sr., as International Presiding Bishop Emeritus (Praeses Internationalis Emeritus Titularis) of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc.

This titular honor, Praeses Internationalis Emeritus Titularis, signifies that Bishop Tindall shall forever retain the dignity of the office he has borne with distinction, and shall be accorded the ceremonial honors, precedence, and reverence befitting one who has shepherded the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., with wisdom and steadfast devotion.

The date and liturgical order for the Rite of Installation (Ritus Installationis) of the Presiding Bishop–Elect shall be announced through the official communication channels of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc.

The College of Bishops exhorts all clergy, delegates, and faithful to receive this announcement with unity of spirit, charity of heart, and fidelity to the order of the Church. All official information regarding this transition shall proceed exclusively from the College of Bishops and the Office of the Board of Directors. We ask the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ, Inc., clergy and delegates to refrain from unofficial postings or announcements, so that the dignity of this moment may be preserved in ecclesial order and harmony.
