Dear Pastor Joy,
Greetings from Manila. We started a new year at the seminary, and I want to share what God is doing in the Philippines.
School starts in August here, so it’s time to meet new students. They arrive (on campus and online) from countries throughout Asia and around the world. We get acquainted and hear their desire to serve God. In this fragile and fresh moment, I remember students who graduated and left us only a few months ago.
As students approach graduation, we often tease them. We say, “You can’t leave us!” knowing that their seminary career is ending. In many ways, we express love for people we have come to know. Becky knows one of our recent graduates well. Priscilla helped Becky organize chapel services. After graduation, she confided, “I didn’t know you would love me!” Our affection for this student deeply affected her. Priscilla is one of many students we’ve known over the years.
Now, we anticipate God working in this new crop of students. Over time, we’ll see them grow personally, spiritually, and professionally, as the Father forms them into Christ’s likeness. Becky’s theme this year is “Reflecting God’s glory” from 2 Corinthians 3:18. It will inspire everything in chapel and happenings on and off campus. This theme will be our spiritual touchstone.
