🌺 A Bittersweet Aloha 🌺

Today, we will come together at Camp Waiʻanae to celebrate and say a bittersweet goodbye to a family who has become such an important part of our community.

For more than a decade, Pastor Erik & Jana VanDenBurgh, along with their three boys—Jacob, Joel & Jaben—have poured their hearts, faith, and love into our Kailua community and the Hawaii Conference. Their ministry has touched countless lives, and their presence has been a blessing to so many.

Join us as we gather for an afternoon of laughter, memories, good food, fellowship, and undoubtedly a few tears as we celebrate the years we’ve shared and the lasting impact this family has made. ❤️

While we are sad to see them leave Hawaiʻi, we are also excited for the new chapter God has prepared for them. Pastor Erik will be moving on to serve with the Pacific Union, and we know God will continue to use the VanDenBurgh family wherever He leads them.

The islands may be a little farther away, but the friendships, memories, and impact they leave behind will remain close to our hearts.

Mahalo, Pastor Erik, Jana, Jacob, Joel & Jaben, for sharing your lives with us. You will be deeply missed.

Today was a special Sabbath at Kailua SDA Church—one filled with gratitude, goodbyes, and new beginnings.

We welcomed Pastor Austin and Dr. Nicole for their first Sabbath with our church ʻohana, and we are so excited for this new chapter together.

We also gathered around the VanDenburgh family for a special prayer as they prepare to leave the island. For more than 10 years, their family has been such an important part of our Kailua ʻohana, and they will be deeply missed. Having Jacob lead our music today made the morning even more meaningful.

We also had the opportunity to thank Ryan Price and his family. For the past 18 months, Ryan faithfully stepped in as Head Elder and helped lead our church while we searched for a new pastor. We are incredibly grateful for the time, heart, and leadership he and his family have given.

Pastor Meshach shared a reminder today that felt especially fitting: sometimes we can hold two emotions at the same time. We can be sad about what we are saying goodbye to while also being excited about what is ahead.

Today felt like exactly that.

A full church. A grateful ʻohana. A hard goodbye. And the beginning of something new.

Pastor Austin and Nicole have officially arrived!

We are so excited to welcome them to Hawaiʻi and have them as part of our Kailua SDA Church ʻohana. We look forward to this next chapter together and are grateful to have them here with us.
