In these tough times of Covid-19, our heart as Awaken is to do what we can to support our friends and family in need. Makapala Retreat Center has been ohana to us for years and a vital part of the Kohala and Hawai’i community. Many of our students have experienced the blessing of this place, its staff, and its extension of Jesus throughout the island.

This year Awaken has specifically felt God leading us to send out a call to Korean-Americans to come be trained and launched into missions. Through the understanding of both eastern and western cultures, Korean-Americans play a vital role in reconciling cultures together and, ultimately, reconciling the world back to God. We believe that they belong in missions, whether in the marketplace, overseas, or in universities!

This January 2020 we are running an Awaken DTS through Youth With a Mission in Kona, Hawai’i. This school is an intentional 6-month journey of encountering God, understanding your identity, and being launched into a lifetime of greater love. COME JOIN US! And tag your friends 🙌🏼👍🏼🔥🎉

Our January DTS staff just spent the last 12 days in Dallas, Texas as a family trip to kick off staff training! One of the biggest blessings was going to daily prayer sets at and ministering to the Lord with other believers. Our times spent there have definitely impacted the way we want to be a community centered the presence of God and we are so thankful for the culture that they have cultivated in this space!

“GO therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
____________
Where do you feel God telling you to go, disciple, baptize, and teach? A specific nation? Your university? That job offer? We are missionaries for the gospel not matter what sphere of society we have been called to!

“When we claim and constantly reclaim the truth of being the chosen ones, we soon discover within ourselves a deep desire to reveal to others their own chosenness. Instead of making us feel that we are better, more precious or valuable than others, our awareness of being chosen opens our eyes to the chosenness of others. That is the great joy of being chosen: the discovery that others are chosen as well. In the house of God there are many mansions. There is a place for everyone - a unique, special place. Once we deeply trust that we ourselves are precious in God's eyes, we are able to recognize the preciousness of others and their unique places in God's heart.”

MEET OUR STAFF:: Sang Ha is one of our January DTS school leaders (along with Kaleigh and Paul)! He was born in Korea but, as his parents decided to go into missions, he moved to the United States at the age of 4. His family joined YWAM in Kona and eventually moved to Los Angeles. Growing up in LA he grew a passion for sports, namely baseball and football. It quickly faded away as injuries continued to sideline him from playing and in college he encountered the Lord. Now his passion is to see those who are oppressed be given the choice to rise up and pave the way for Jesus to come back. Sang has been on staff with us since 2016 and we are so thankful for the wisdom and grace he carries into school leading!
