Praying for Safety and Boldness in opportunities to share the Gospel! Stay safe Big Island Ohana!
Hurricane Lane - A call for prayer for Hawaiian Islands and Disaster Relief awareness. Darrell McCain, HPBC Director of HPBC Disaster Relief: Aloha volunteers, I am keeping us on ALERT! The Governor has placed Big Island and Maui on a Hurricane watch and the rest of the State tonight or tomorrow.
Please continue monitoring the storm and get your preparedness kits ready to grab if you have to evacuate to a shelter.
Pastors, be ready for a possible influx of people in your community wanting to come to your church for shelter, it could be a reality.
Tie down all loose things around the church and your home, bring in lawn furniture and stuff that could be a flying hazard. Check on your neighbor especially our Kupuna. Know where your shelter is before the storm.
Coastal homes especially on South and West facing shores be ready for high surf and rising water.
Please share with all church members.
This is good counsel from Pastor Jay Wright of Lahaina Baptist Church: Hurricane Lane Update & Planning Tips (adapted)
As of 11am (8.21.2018) Hurricane Lane has winds of 155mph and a projected path impacting Maui County as early as Thursday. Maui County Emergency Management has issued a Hurricane Watch, and now is the time to complete preparations. I invite you to consider a few additional steps in addition to gathering food, water, toiletries and other supplies:
1. Reach Out: Make contact with the Elderly, Single Parents, Working families to be arrange a gathering place or response plan to help in time of need.
2. Reach In: Talk with your Ohana about storm impacts. allow your Ohana to talk and ask questions. This helps calm anxiety. Ensure you have a safe gathering place that all family members know about.
3. Communication: Should cellular and land lines go down, how will you stay informed? Make your plans today.
4. Travel: Make sure your emergency plans include the possibility of closed roads.
5. Service & Respond: Would you be available to help with a Red Cross (SBC) Disaster Relief Response Team?
Thank you for praying, planning, reaching out, and responding.
Aloha,
Pastor Jay
