Dear Members of the KO Conference,

I want to give you an update on the Conference Minister transition. Lorraine's last day with the KO conference is May 31, 2026. The board accepted her request for an early end date due to her being selected to be Interim Conference Minister with the Pacific Northwest Conference. The board and I wish to extend our deepest gratitude for her service, and her willingness to help us make this transition as smooth as possible. We choose to celebrate all of the wonderful work we have done together during her tenure as our Conference Minister. We wish her every joy as she continues her ministry.

There will be a special service at Zion UCC in Junction City on May 31 beginning at 10:30 a.m. that will include a blessing and parting liturgy honoring Lorraine and her work with KO. All are welcome to attend or send a message to be read during the service or shared privately with Lorraine afterward. Unfortunately, this event will not be live streamed or recorded.

The KO Board has appointed an Interim Search Committee who will be guiding the process of selecting an Interim Conference Minister in conjunction with Rev. Dr. Diane Weible, UCC Search and Call Consultant. They are already hard at work vetting candidates.

What does that mean for the KO Conference? For now:

- Julia (Designated Term Associate Conference Minister) will be the main point of contact for KO Staff and all KO Conference business

- The phone number will remain the same

-The mailing address will remain the same

The board and I appreciate your patience and the outpouring of love we have received during this important and uncertain time.

Please know that we are open to questions and concerns. More information will be coming in the next few weeks, please be on the lookout for those emails.

With warmest regards,
Jackie Kropp
President, KO Board of Directors

Grants Available: Supporting Resilient & Robust Churches & Communities

In the ongoing series of Holy Conversations over the last three years, lay and clergy members across the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference of the UCC have expressed a growing need for resources to strengthen and build the resilience of our local churches and the communities in which they minister. Accordingly, the KO Board of Directors has put together a new grant program: Supporting Resilient & Robust Churches & Communities.

Beloved Church, we are almost there.

This weekend we will gather and say the words again.
Alleluia. Christ is risen.

We know these words.
We trust these words.

But if we are honest, the world right now does not feel like it is possible for resurrection. There is too much that feels unsettled. Too much that feels heavy. At times, it feels like things are unraveling faster than they can be mended.

We are carrying grief.
We are carrying anger.
We are carrying a quiet exhaustion that does not always have words.

We often say we are Easter people living in a Good Friday world. This year, that does not feel like a distant idea. It feels close. It feels real.

And still, this is where the story begins.

The first Easter did not arrive in a peaceful world. It came in the aftermath of violence and loss to a community that had been shaken. It came to people who did not yet know what hope would look like again. The women went to the tomb not with expectation, but with love. They showed up in the middle of their grief. And there, before anything made sense, God was already at work.

That is the promise we carry.

Not that everything will suddenly feel resolved. Not that the world will become easy. But that even here, even now, life is beginning again. Resurrection does not wait for perfect conditions.

It takes root in places like this. In ordinary faithfulness. In communities that keep showing up for one another. In people who refuse to let go of love. Sometimes it looks like courage. Sometimes it looks like community, and sometimes it looks like refusing to turn away from another

So, as we move toward Easter, you do not have to rush ahead. You do not have to force joy.
You do not have to pretend things are different than they are. Just stay present. Stay open. Stay with one another.

Easter is coming.

Not as an escape from this world, but as a promise within it. And even now, before the alleluias are spoken out loud, quietly and often out of sight, new life is already finding its way among us.

With you on the journey,
Lorraine

🙌🏾 As bombs continue to drop around the world, the children cannot run fast enough to escape the carnage visited upon them. The children are a part of the collateral damage of war, civil unrest, and the misguided notion that peace can be achieved with war or that a people should not exist because of who they are. Children are watching their parents and family members die. Children are being killed at an alarming rate in armed conflicts around the world.

The losses are staggering, so is the silence around the world. As people of faith, we must continue to advocate for the end of the war. We must be willing to demand the truth from the United States government and ask for the accountabilities for the killing of children who will be buried in a mass funeral.

-Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia A. Thompson
General Minister & President/CEO, UCC
