Why Do Methodists Observe Aldersgate Sunday?
Aldersgate Sunday remembers May 24, 1738, when John Wesley’s “heart was strangely warmed” during a prayer meeting on Aldersgate Street in London. This moment helped spark the Methodist movement and reminds us that faith is more than religion or knowledge. It is a living relationship with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
As we celebrate Pentecost and Aldersgate Sunday together, we remember that God still changes hearts and fills His people with the Holy Spirit today.
What Warms Your Heart?
The 2026 Kentucky Annual Conference will be held June 1–3 at Christ United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ky.
This year’s theme is “Fan the Flame: Rekindle the Gift” from Second Epistle to Timothy 1:6–7:
“For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of self-discipline.”
Please keep Bishop David Graves and all those attending Annual Conference in your prayers as they gather for worship, fellowship, and the work of the Church.
MISSION OFFERING NEW ALDERSGATE LODGE
This year’s Annual Conference Mission Offering will support the rebuilding of the lodge at Aldersgate Camp, which was lost to a devastating fire last fall. For generations, Aldersgate has been a place where lives are shaped in faith, where young people hear God’s call, and where community is built through shared experiences.
The lodge serves as the heart of camp life. It is where campers gather for meals, worship, learning, and fellowship. Rebuilding this space is essential to restoring the rhythm of daily life at camp and strengthening its ability to form disciples across the Kentucky Conference.
Your gift will help restore not just a building, but a place where relationships are formed, leaders are developed, and faith takes root. As we gather for Annual Conference, we invite you to give generously and be part of what God is rebuilding at Aldersgate.
If you would like to donate to the Annual Conference Mission Offering, please give your donation to Edward by May 31st so the offering can be taken to Annual Conference. Thank you for your support and generosity.
