Godly Play Story Paul and Silas with Stephanie Blanchard
Wondering Questions
I wonder what it felt like for Paul and Silas to be trapped in prison?
I wonder why they chose to sing hymns to God instead of staying silent?
I wonder if you have ever felt spiritually stuck or trapped inside?
I wonder what “freedom” feels like in your body or your life?
I wonder how we can help others feel free and safe too?

Mother’s Day/Festival of the Christian Home

Worship Script

Welcome Rev. Dr. Craig S. Pesti-Strobel
Good morning and welcome to all who are gathered here and who are joining us online.
My name is Craig Pesti-Strobel and I am filling in for our appointed pastor, Beth Estock
who is taking a well-deserved vacation this week. We gather this morning on a Sunday
that celebrates the Festival of the Christian Home, and on which our country has set aside
to honor all those who are mothers or persons who have served as mothers to us. It may
be that your relationship to your mother is filled with warmth and deep abiding love, or
that relationship may be fraught with difficulty. Today we will reflect upon how Jesus
calls us to live differently than a world that thrives on violence and war, and how the
Mothering Spirit awakens the love that God has imprinted in our souls. You are welcome
here just as you are: body, mind, spirit, and soul.
I invite you to allow the music of the Prelude and the ringing of the bell to call you and
center you down into this time of worship.

Leader: and wisdom to those in fearful times of change.
People: We thank you for gifts of love we have received from mother, father, spouse,
child or companion.
Leader: As we have been loved by you and by so many others, so may we also love.
ALL: Grant us your peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Creator, source of every breath,
you are our rain, our wind, our sun.
2 Mothering Christ, you took our form,
offering everyone your food of light,
grain...of life, and grape of love,
your very body for our peace.
3 Mothering Spirit, nurturing one,
in arms of patience hold us close,
so that in faith we root and grow
until we flower, until we know.

Mother’s Day didn’t begin as a Hallmark holiday.
It started as a call to courage—women gathering in the aftermath of war, grieving what had been lost, and organizing for peace. It was about refusing violence and choosing a different way forward for the sake of future generations.
That feels… surprisingly relevant right now.
You don’t have to believe a certain way to come.
We’ll create some space to reflect, and maybe imagine what it could look like to live a little more rooted in love.- https://mailchi.mp/9d2c7f749df0/joseph-umc-6428492

What if resurrection isn’t just something that happened to Jesus… but something happening in us?
This Sunday, we’ll explore how we get stuck in old patterns—and how love invites us into something new.
We’ll gather at the table, share a simple meal, and remember a different way of living.

What a night to remember. 💛
At our final Monday Night Community Dinner of the season, we served 415 meals—our biggest yet. It’s hard to put into words what these evenings have become… but if you were there, you felt it: neighbors lingering a little longer, laughter echoing across tables, and that quiet sense that something meaningful is happening here.
A heartfelt thank you to Wallowa Memorial Medical Clinics for sponsoring the dinner and showing up with a team of volunteers. Your support made this night possible.
And to our incredible chefs—Hilary Valentine, Craig Pesti-Strobel, and Chris Lueck—thank you for crafting a meal that truly felt like a celebration. You brought the season full circle in the most delicious way.
We’re also so grateful to Roger Averbeck for faithfully capturing these moments week after week. These photos help us remember just how special this community is.
415 meals… but so much more than that.
Connection. Care. Belonging.
Thank you for being part of it. We can’t wait to gather again next season. 💫

Tonight’s the night—and it’s a special one. 💛
Join us at The Place from 5–7pm for our final Community Dinner of the season. This is more than just a meal—it’s a celebration of everything we’ve shared together over these past months.
We’re serving up a “greatest hits” menu:
🍝 Homemade lasagna
🥪 Pulled chicken sandwiches
🥖 Roasted pork Banh Mi
🥗 Fresh salads with Meeps microgreens
🍰 And a full dessert smorgasbord of cake and ice cream
Come hungry. Come as you are. Bring a friend, a neighbor, or someone new.
Let’s gather one more time this season—around good food, warm connection, and the kind of community that makes this place feel like home. 💫

What does healing actually look like right now?
This Sunday at 10am, we’re doing something a little different. We’ll host a conversation with Dan Grigg, CEO of Wallowa Memorial Hospital—about what’s happening with healthcare in our county, how changes like Medicaid cuts affect our neighbors, and what it really means to care for each other in a small community.
We’ll also reflect on the quieter side of healing—when things don’t go as planned, and we’re asked to find a new way forward.
