Synodal School of Liturgical Music The Synodal School of Liturgical Music was established with the blessing of Metropolitan Laurus. Instruction is given in Russian and English.

The full course of study consists of three summer sessions, at the end of which the graduates will be certified as church choir directors and/or readers. The Summer School of Liturgical Music was established with the blessing of Metropolitan Laurus. Academic credit is given after successful completion of the third summer. A non-certification track is offered to those seeking enrichment in the area

of Russian Orthodox Music, who do not intend to become church readers or choir directors. The course load, full or partial, may be agreed upon in consultation with the school administration. While knowledge of Russian is helpful, it is not essential for study.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Nicholas, the Synodal School of Liturgical Music in the memory of Metropolitan Laurus has opened its 35th year.

Students from all over the country and across the pond are currently at Novo Diveyevo Convent working on the unique, prayerful and beautiful Russian Orthodox Chant. Students will be studying Church Slavonic for both English and Russian speakers, Church Music History, Liturgical Performance Practice, Music Theory and Musicianship, Choral Methods, Choir Conducting, Voice, and Typicon.

Second and third year students prepare and chant several services throughout the two weeks under the supervision of the faculty. This school gives adults an opportunity to work on their skills as well as being in the presence of other Orthodox people for two weeks. Our Story

The Synodal School of Liturgical Music at Holy Trinity Monastery was established with the blessing of the Rector of the Seminary, Metropolitan Laurus (+). The full course of study consists of three summer sessions, at the end of which the graduates will be certified as church choir directors or singers. An individualized study program is offered to those seeking enrichment in the area of Russian Orthodox Music but who do not wish to commit to the full course of study. Some online courses are available during the year between sessions. Instruction is given in Russian and English. While knowledge of Russian is helpful, it is not essential for study.
