Brothers,
I am sure you all are aware of the recent increase in cases of COVID locally. I wanted to make sure you had some basic information. Please feel free to email me directly if you have additional questions.
98% or better survive when exposed to the virus. Symptoms range widely from a mild cold to bad pneumonia or bronchitis.
Limit your exposure to people as much as possible and if you must be out, maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet.
Wear a cloth mask or other mask when you must be inside stores or buildings. This helps to keep your secretions closer to you and may help to reduce your risk somewhat as well.
Wash your hands frequently and for 20 seconds (recite the Lord's Prayer or the Pledge of Allegiance). If not able to wash your hands, then use hand sanitizer.
If you are exposed and not having symptoms, please quarantine for 2 weeks to avoid exposing others. If you are unable to quarantine, then contact your physician to see if testing for COVID is warranted.
If you are exposed and having symptoms, contact your physician, and describe your symptoms. They will likely only want to see you in the office if you are experiencing new or worsening shortness of breath. They may recommend a Video Visit and may also recommend COVID testing.
If you are significantly short of breath, go to the ER. Either by personal vehicle or ambulance. Please notify them ahead of time of your exposure to COVID so they can take appropriate precautions. Please do not just "show-up" at the ER without some form of prior notification as they want to prevent spreading it to other patients and ensure their staff is appropriately protected.
If someone in your household contracts COVID, limit your exposure to that person as much as possible and isolate them to specific areas of the house. Disinfect surfaces frequently. Wash hands frequently. Consider wearing a mask.
We will be dealing with COVID for the next 2-3 years...at least. We all must have a plan of how we get through this. Until we have >50% of the population either exposed with protective immunity or vaccinated, we will continue to see a tread of spikes and lulls.
