How Much of Your Life Are You Wasting?

Events of these past few weeks have brought many questions to my mind. Some are hard questions. I want to share some of them and challenge you to ask these questions of yourself.
Have you ever truly considered how much of life is wasted and squandered on senseless and meaningless things? Have you examined the hours of your day to see the true depth of wasted time? We only have a number of hours, days or years to exist in this world. What do we use our time for in reality? It is time for a reality check. It is time to “examine yourself”.
I challenge you to create a log and record your actions throughout your day. Start your log whenever you awake each day and continue recording your actions until you go to sleep each night. Do this for seven days. List each time and the amount of time you spend watching video, the amount of time spent on social media, the amount of time spent playing games etcetera. I believe you will be shocked at the end of the week how much of the precious time God has given you on things that have no value at all. Furthermore, you will see how you actually have more time than you think you do to accomplish much more than you do currently. You may just find your day has been filled with activities of no real value that could and should be removed. We are so distracted by these things and so conditioned to fill our days with them, we feel they are normal and we deserve to do them. Life is not bettered by social media, or assorted entertainments. We don’t help to change the lives of others for the better by doing them either.
Are there things you have been putting off for “ the right time” or “when you have time”? Why not fill the wasted time with working on the list of things you have been putting off? Walk around your house and look for things you need to accomplish. List those things in a notebook. List things that will take five minutes to five days. This list will grow even as you accomplish items you complete from your initial list. Every time you start to log on to social media or plop down and watch some type of video, pick an item on your list and complete it or break larger tasks down to smaller steps and complete part of the steps. Did you read your Bible today? Did you pray? Are all your dishes clean and put away? Is your laundry all clean and put away? Is your trash taken out? Are your floors swept? Did you oil that creaking door hinge or tighten the loose hinge screws on the door? How many things could you be doing that reinforces your good stewardship of the things God has blessed you with instead of participating in the meaningless activities of the world?
Some, if not all, will ignore this and refuse to challenge themselves. I can’t change that. But if you don’t challenge yourself to spend your time wisely, you will simply continue to waste precious moments that could have been put to good use.
