Nancy Brown was born December 22, 1946 in Washington D.C., the daughter of RM1 Harvey L. Haysler and Beverly (Greiner) Haysler. She departed this life on January 16, 2026 at the age of 79.
Nancy grew up in Webb City, Missouri and Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where she graduated from College High School in 1964. She then attended Northeastern State University. Nancy married Allen M. “Mike” Brown on December 28, 1966. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She worked occasionally in restaurant and hotel management, as well as property management; however, her real love was her service in the American Red Cross. Nancy worked as a volunteer in the national disaster team, serving in eight states across 20 disaster responses. She also volunteered in service to military families from 1995 until 2003 and as a national disaster instructor from 1996-2006. She was awarded the Clara Barton Award for exceptional volunteer service. She retired from active service as Executive Director of the Southwest Missouri Chapter in 2006, completing a total of 32 years of service.
Nancy was a member of Saginaw Baptist Church, where she was leader of the Woman’s Missionary Union and of Operation Christmas Child.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and sister, Carol Jean Haysler.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Williams of Waco, Texas, and Hope Johnston of the home; one son, Allen Brown (Alicia) of Joplin, Missouri; one brother, Chris Haysler (Evelyn) of Claremore, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Nicholas Johnston (Kristen) of Carl Junction, Missouri, Nathan Cantu (Morgan) of Joplin, Missouri, Nashton English of Creston, Iowa, and Allison Brown of Joplin, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren, Eden Nelson of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Nevaeh.
A celebration of life services with a reception following will be at Saginaw Baptist church, 406 Bartlett, Joplin, MO at 2:00 p.m. on January 31, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Services or Operation Christmas Child.
