On Sunday I had the honor of presenting a tribute to Dr. Charles “Bud” Vear who celebrated his 100th birthday. Dr. Vear has been a pillar in Hillsdale County since moving here with his wife Gloria and their family over 50 years ago.

In his tenure as a doctor he delivered over 2,000 babies and served the community as a family doctor for almost 30 years. Dr. Vear still serves as the Hillsdale County Right to Life president and was an instrumental part of helping start the pregnancy resource center in Hillsdale, now know as Helping Hands.

You may also have seen Bud perform at the Sauk Theater, the Women’s Congress Program, or various community events. He is an author, an actor, and a singer.

It was noted that he has been alive for 40% of our nations history having been born on July 5th, one day after America’s 150th birthday. Many family and friends gathered to celebrate this amazing man on Sunday. Dr. Vear has been a great example in so many lives, including mine. He’s someone I have looked up to since the day I was born. In fact he was the doctor who assisted in my delivery at Hillsdale Hospital many years ago.
