What a powerful move of God we witnessed at our Sectional Youth Rally last evening! Fourteen young people received the gift of the Holy Ghost, and lives were forever changed.

It's happening!

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.” — Acts 2:17.

God is pouring out His Spirit in these last days, and we are witnessing His promise being fulfilled before our very eyes.

This could be the service that changes everything.

Father’s Day originated in the United States in the early 20th century.

The holiday is most closely associated with Sonora Smart, who wanted to honor her father, William Smart. After hearing a sermon about Mother’s Day in 1909, she proposed a day to recognize fathers. Her father had raised six children alone after his wife died.

The first Father's Day celebration was held on June 19, 1910, in Spokane.

Although the idea gained support, it took many years to become an official holiday:

In 1972, Richard Nixon signed a law making Father's Day a permanent national holiday in the U.S.

There is an elderly Black couple who live near the church. I have visited them in their home, and it is a very sobering experience when they point to photographs on their wall of relatives who were enslaved—family members they still remember and honor to this day.

They are a very kind and gracious couple. I could understand if they carried bitterness or resentment because of the injustices their family endured, but they have not allowed the pain of the past to define who they are today.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is an attribute of the strong.”

Slavery was a tragic chapter in American history that should never have happened.

On June 19, 1865—now commemorated as Juneteenth—enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Juneteenth represents liberation, hope, resilience, and the fulfillment of the promise of freedom.

I celebrate with them,

Pastor Scott Timmons
