My e-mail account for the church has been compromised. I haven't sent you requests for anything and everyone in my family is OK. However, in trying to repair the damage, I lost all contact information but 2, so I thought this was the best way to let you know. Technology is a little tricky sometimes!

The Jonesport Food Pantry will stay open through the winter. We will look at the options in April. We need volunteers to help with collecting retail donations. If you have messaged me about this before, please do so again; your message and contact information has disappeared into wherever missing messages go!

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Gather in the lower parking lot of SMCC for a blessing of your animals with Pastor Phyllis Merritt. To keep the gathering of our pets relatively under control, please use a leash or crate. If your pet does not do well on a leash or crate, or may not be as social with others, not to worry…keep your pet in your truck or car, and Pastor Phyllis will come to you for the blessing . If your pet is too ill, uncomfortable traveling, or, for some other reason, you are unable to bring your pet, then simply bring a photo of your pet along for the blessing. All creeds and breeds are welcome!

There will be a congregational meeting after worship on October 15, 2023 with two items on the agenda: to determine the future of the Jonesport Food Pantry and of the Seaside Chapel in Mason Bay. We welcome your ideas!

For February 20, 2022

From Jeremiah 17 (NIV):
“...blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Those wonderful words were part of last week's lectionary readings, and they have been dancing around in my head for the past two weeks. Briefly, some background to the swirling thoughts: 1. The season of Epiphany is in what we call Ordinary Time, and the liturgical color of Ordinary Time is green. 2. Dad and I have been reading from the Old Farmer’s Almanac every morning at breakfast. We have been reading about what to plant when, and we have learned all sorts of interesting facts about the vegetables and fruit that feed our bodies and the flowers that feed our souls. 3. This morning, a deer came to the shrubs my mom planted in front of the house. It nibbled anything that looked like a green treat. I watched from the kitchen window about six feet from the deer, and I made a discovery. If anyone tells you that you have “doe eyes,” thank them. The eyes of a deer are beautiful.

There you have the Jeremiah passage in a nutshell. Our thoughts of the green-ness of the world apply to us. First of all, we trust and we are blessed for that. Then like all of God’s creation, we grow. If we are planted in the living water, we can help but grow in the Lord. Our roots deepen. What we do and say as Christian people will be like green leaves –nourishing for some, habitat for others, and a beautiful testament to our trust and confidence in God.

Remember, Epiphany is when we try to see things in a new way, or have a new understanding about us and our world. My challenge to you is to “Be Green” this week. Find something extraordinary in this green ordinary time! Find something extraordinary in your ordinary day and then…rejoice! Feel blessed!

May the Lord be with you this week, Amen.
