🟢 Day 5 of Emerald Crossing VBS 🟢

5️⃣ On our fifth and final day at Emerald Crossing, we focused on Psalm 23:6 and saw how David remembered God’s mercy and goodness toward him, and knew that, because he was a child of God, he would live with God forever in heaven. We heard how David prepared for a temple to be built, where he could put the ark of the covenant, because he loved God and wanted to show his thankfulness to Him (1 Chronicles 22). We learned that, for those who are part of God’s family, His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). We talked about how the rainbow is a symbol of God’s promise to not flood the whole world again, not a symbol of “good luck” or rebellion against God. And God keeps every one of His promises, one of which is most certainly His promise that those who admit they are a sinner (Romans 3:23, 6:23), repent, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 1:15; Romans 5:8, 10:9-10) will be saved and will dwell in the house of the Lord — the Good Shepherd — forever.

🟡 Day 4 of Emerald Crossing VBS 🟡

4️⃣ On day 4, we focused on Psalm 23:5 and saw how David remembered God’s kindness toward him (1 Samuel 16:1-13) and showed gratitude toward God. We heard how David invited Saul’s grandson Mephibosheth to his dinner table, even though Saul had tried to kill David in the past (2 Samuel 9:3-7). David showed kindness to his enemies, which reminds us that God — our Good Shepherd — shows kindness to us, and we, in turn, are to show kindness to others. Like David, we are to also have an attitude of gratitude toward God. There is no such thing as “luck”; God is the giver of all good things and He is in control of everything. And the greatest gift He ever gave was His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:8). We are to thank God continually; to go from grumbling to being grateful, no matter our circumstances.

🟢 Day 3 of Emerald Crossing VBS 🟢

3️⃣ On day 3, we heard the account of David and Saul, how Saul was seeking to kill David, and David’s escapes (1 Samuel 19-23). We read Psalm 23:4 and saw how David truly recognized God as his shepherd who comforts and protects him with His rod and staff in the darkest, scariest times; God protects His sheep from their enemies and guides His sheep if they are getting off the right path. We learned that this does not mean bad things would not happen to God’s children, but that He promises to be with us every step of the way (Isaiah 41:10). We heard that instead of being anxious, God tells us to come to Him in prayer with thanksgiving. He tells us to think of things that are true, noble, just, and pure, among many other good things (Philippians 4:6-8). God helps us go from being fearful to peaceful.

We are excited for day 4 tonight and hope you’ll join us, even if you haven’t been to any of the first three days!

🟡 Day 2 of Emerald Crossing VBS 🟡

2️⃣ On day 2, we read the account of David and Goliath; how God used David to defeat Goliath, and David recognized it was God who would lead him in the battle (1 Samuel 17:45-47). We learned how David trusted God as his leader, and we should, too. God guides us by His Holy Word, the Bible. We heard how the Bible is God-inspired (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21) and why we can trust it as God’s Word: from how it was written, to the promises and predictions described in it that have been fulfilled, to archaeological findings. All of this together, in addition to how the Bible changes people’s lives and people have been willing to die for it, shows that the Bible is the Word of the one, true God, and that those who belong to the Good Shepherd know God’s Word is true (John 10:27).

🟢 Day 1 of Emerald Crossing VBS 🟢

1️⃣ On day 1, we heard about how David called God his shepherd (Psalm 23:1) and knew that He was His deliverer (1 Samuel 17:34-37). David knew that God is not a distant God; rather, He is a personal God who cares about us. We learned about how shepherds would lay down their lives for their sheep and would search for lost sheep. We heard how Jesus is the Good Shepherd and we are the sheep that have gone astray (Isaiah 53:6). That Jesus laid down His life for the sheep (John 10:11); He cares about every lost person. We talked about how we aren't born belonging to the Good Shepherd (Romans 3:23), but we heard how we can become one of His sheep (one of His children): by repenting and believing in the gospel (Mark 1:15; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10).
