Trinity Presbyterian Church - PCA

Trinity Presbyterian Church - PCA Trinity Presbyterian Church (PCA) is located in Johnstown, PA. We are committed to the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not our own, but belong to our Savior.

He is our Redeemer, Lord, and Life. We are his by grace alone, and in him we are united to one another as members of one body. Worship, discipleship, and fellowship on the Lord’s Day is the heart of our church life, but we also support one another throughout the week as we humbly strive to obey Jesus' command to love one another. We are Protestant and Reformed because we identify with all faithful

believers who want to see the Church continually reformed and renewed by God’s Word and Spirit. We rely on the Scriptures as God’s authoritative and living Word. We do not look to the latest fads but to the Scriptures and past and present sources of wisdom — including early, medieval and reformation churches — for instruction on what it means to be the church and how to live for the glory of Jesus Christ. In this sense, we are catholic. We are confessional, holding to the foundational truths stated in ancient creeds such was the Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed. We also hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith as a faithful summary of what the Bible teaches. Trinity is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America, a denomination that strives to be “faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission.” We aim to be God-focused, Christ-centered, deeply biblical, honest about our sin and need, and grateful for our salvation in Jesus Christ.

"What sets the Christian community apart is not absence of suffering but hope in suffering. We know that Life has defeated death as surely as light conquers darkness. Jesus Christ is the great Victor. For this reason Paul encouraged believers to press forward in humble and faithful service. “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58). For this reason also Paul charged believers to comfort one another with the assurance that, though we grieve, we grieve in the hope that death will not have the final word—the resurrection will. As the first fruits of the new creation, Jesus has already gone before us to show us the way—to provide the way—to eternal life." - Gerald L. Sittser

Youth Ministry That Takes the Long View

At Trinity, our youth ministry is shaped by a simple conviction: we are not aiming merely for short-term engagement, but for lifelong discipleship. We want to see our children and youth grow into men and women who love Christ, remain in His church, and walk faithfully with Him for decades to come.

1. Cultivating a Culture Where Faith Can Flourish
We seek to cultivate a church culture where faith can take root and grow. This includes meaningful peer friendships, genuine relationships with older believers, joyful worship, opportunities to serve, and steady exposure to God’s Word.
Our desire is that every young person at Trinity would be known personally, loved sincerely, and encouraged patiently as they grow in Christ.

2. Relying on God’s Covenant
We believe our children are members of the covenant community. We do not treat them as outsiders waiting to become Christians someday. Instead, we nurture them as those who belong to the Lord and to His church, trusting His covenant promises and relying on His grace to bring those promises to fruition in their lives.
Our confidence ultimately rests not in our programming, but in God’s faithfulness.

3. Prioritizing Parental Discipleship
Scripture and experience both teach us that the greatest earthly influence on a child’s lasting faith is their parents. For that reason, Trinity Youth does not seek to replace or compete with parents, but to support and encourage them.
We encourage a parenting approach marked by both clarity and warmth—clear expectations and loving affection held together. Children are far more likely to embrace the faith when they see it woven into everyday home life, reinforced through patient, loving guidance rather than reduced to mere rule-keeping.
We also encourage parents to make full use of the broader ministries of the church that equip them for discipleship and help integrate their children into the wider church family.

4. Worship as Formation
We believe lifelong discipleship requires incorporation—not separation—into the worship of the church. Children and youth are not spectators or future members; they are part of the worshiping assembly now.
In gathered worship, God meets His people through Word and sacrament. Over time, this ordinary, weekly rhythm shapes hearts, strengthens faith, and forms disciples of the Lord Jesus. For that reason, we aim to teach our youth not only about worship, but to help them grow in love for the Lord’s Day and for the gathered church.

5. Intergenerational and Integrated Ministry
We are convinced that faith is best nurtured within the full life of the church, not in isolation from it. While Trinity Youth provides space for peer relationships, we intentionally encourage strong intergenerational connections.
We long for our older, mature members to know our young people by name, to pray for them, to speak into their lives, and to model steady Christian faithfulness. Our aim is a church culture in which youth see themselves as full members of the body—known, loved, needed, and able to serve.

6. Relationships Over Programs
Programs such as Sunday School and Youth Group are helpful tools. But programs alone cannot produce lasting disciples. Spiritual maturity is most often shaped through consistent, meaningful relationships with faithful adults.
For that reason, we encourage our youth and young adults to participate fully in corporate worship, small groups, service opportunities, and mentoring relationships within the church. We want them to experience the Christian life not as a phase to grow out of, but as a lifelong calling lived within the family of God.

Completely reliant on God’s covenant faithfulness and His grace, this is how Trinity seeks to form the faithful and encourage a lifetime of discipleship within the household of God.

*This philosophy of ministry is developed from Cameron Shaffer’s excellent book, Keeping Kids Christian: Recovering a Biblical Vision for Lifelong Discipleship (Baker Books, 2026).

Trinity Youth is a place where youth can grow in their faith and have fun together. Our time is centered on Bible-based discussions led by adult leaders, where we open God’s Word and learn how it speaks to matters of our faith and life. We want our youth to see that following Jesus isn’t just ab...

This Wince+Sing piece explores how the early Church stood apart from the surrounding culture by inventing language to name the sexual abuse of children for what it really is: corruption, not love.

This history challenges us to recover the clarity, courage, and moral imagination of the early Church.

It may be a good time to draw attention to the ways–some perhaps surprising–that the horror of the sexual abuse of children relates to the Christian faith and life.

"In this life, we can never say: “I’ve made it. No more forks in the road. No more places where I might stumble and fall flat. No more hard, daily choices to make. No more need for daily grace.” Life never operates on cruise control. The living God seems content to work in his church and in people groups on a scale of generations and centuries. The living God seems content to work in individuals on a scale of years and decades, throughout a whole lifetime. At every step, there’s some crucial watershed issue. What will you choose? Whom will you love and serve? There’s always something that the Vinedresser is pruning, some difficult lesson that the Father is teaching the children he loves. It’s no accident that ‘God is love’ and ‘love is patient’ fit together seamlessly. God takes his time with us." - David Powlison, Making All Things New: Restoring Joy to the Sexually Broken

Trinity is excited to host an upcoming event in partnership with Greystone Theological Institute, and we’d love for you to join us! Over two weekends in March, Dr. Mark A. Garcia will explore what it means to live faithfully and fruitfully within the real world of Scripture.

Made For Glory: Living Faithfully and Fruitfully in the Real World of Scripture

What is the difference between believing the things God’s Word says and living the life God’s Word commends? In this series of lessons over two weekends in March, Dr. Mark A. Garcia (Greystone Theological Institute) will lead us through the basic features of the real world as Holy Scripture describes and teaches it: from who we are and how we learn and grow, to matters of time (how Scriptural time works, the relationship of work and rest, the importance of hospitality and the “pace” of life), of space (who the Church is as a kind of space, the presence of Jesus in the Church, the special importance of home and of strong relationships), and vocation (the meaning of man and woman, the dignity of good labor, the measure and arc of a good life).
