I'm seeing a bit of a renewed interest lately in the life and ministry of Preacher George Whitefield. This is a good thing because George Whitefield faithfully preached the centrality of the new birth to groups of people who were largely resting only in their church membership. His life and ministry demonstrated that belief in a sovereign God should not detract from evangelistic zeal, but rather embolden it. Whitefield is a man to consider today.

Public Bible Reading: Isaiah 53 at Letchworth State Park, NY
Why do this? It bring the word of God to bear upon the lives of people who otherwise might not have been giving God any consideration. He's worthy of consideration. His Word brings hope and peace and points people to Christ. And that's only a few reasons. There are many other reasons why public scripture reading is beneficial and honoring to the Lord.
