This Sunday... 1 Samuel 30
There are moments in life when it feels like everything goes wrong at the same time. You get the phone call you didn't want. The doctor gives you news you weren't expecting. The relationship you've invested in suddenly falls apart. The job disappears. The financial situation becomes overwhelming. The child you have prayed for walks away from the Lord. The plans you carefully made don't work out. And sometimes it isn't just one thing. Sometimes it is one thing after another. You deal with one problem, and before you have time to breathe, another one shows up. You begin to wonder: “Lord, what am I supposed to do now?”

Prayer Update...
We wanted to give our church family an update regarding Abby, the granddaughter of Don and Jennifer Mooney.

Abby’s surgery, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed until next Thursday, September 10th.

The doctors have determined that the procedure is more complicated than originally anticipated and are taking additional time to carefully evaluate the situation and determine the best way to proceed. We are thankful that they are taking the necessary time to prepare and make the right decisions for Abby.

Please continue to pray for Abby and her family in the coming week. Pray especially that:

The Lord would give the doctors wisdom, clarity, and discernment as they determine the best approach.
The surgical team would have skill, strength, and steady hands during the procedure.
The tumor would be removed carefully and completely.
Abby’s optic and motor functions would be protected.
Abby and her family would experience God’s peace, comfort, and presence as they wait.
Above all, we continue to pray that the Lord’s will would be done and that He would guide every step of this process.
Thank you, church family, for continuing to lift Abby, Don, Jennifer, and their family before the Lord. Let’s keep praying faithfully as we wait for September 10th.

“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” — Psalm 62:8

Sunday Scripture was 1 Samuel 29
David has gotten himself in a tight spot. He has deceived King Achish and through that deception has been made his bodyguard. David and his men will now go to battle with King Achish against Saul and the Israelite army.
God intervenes in the situation by way of the other Philistine leaders. They do not want the enemy behind them in battle. So Achish sends David back to Zicklag. God did not want David anywhere near the battle; this is the battle in which Saul would die and Israel be defeated, as God had told Saul.
Here are some ways to apply this story:
1. When we lean on our own understanding, we may find ourselves in compromising situations.
2. God can use the “world” to say to you “What are you doing here; why would a servant of the Lord be here and doing what you are doing?” Are there places you go or things you do that you should stop?
3. God will thwart our plans. By his grace, God intervenes in our lives and even works against our plans for our good and His Glory. Have you experienced your plans failing for God's glory and your good?
4. Our pride can keep us from praising the Lord for his deliverance. Look up; in our daily lives look for God working.
5. Regardless of what Achish said about David he was not blameless in these dealings. Jesus is the blameless, obedient, humble servant of his Father. He was and is blameless in all ways and in him we can be presented as blameless to the Father. Jesus takes our sin and gives us his righteousness.

Our scripture for Sunday is 1 Samuel 29
Have you ever found yourself in a tight spot because of your own choices? Things go well for a while but there will come a time where the consequences of your choices catch up with you. This is where we find David.
Chapter 29 tells us what happened with David between becoming Achish’s bodyguard in 1 Samuel 28:1-2 and the Philistines encamping at Shunem in 1 Samuel 28:3. The author split this story up to tell us what is happening with Saul and what is happening with David. We see from both of these stories that God intervenes in their plans to set into motion His will. God intervenes to declare Saul’s fate and God intervenes to save David and his future reign.
God will thwart our plans. By his grace, God intervenes in our lives and even works against our plans for our good and His Glory.

Cornerstone Mid-Week Update 8-26-26
Cornerstone Friends and Family,

Upcoming Events:
Ladies Bible Study STARTS September 8th
Wednesday Family Gathering STARTS September 9th!
Youth Group STARTS September 20th!

Sunday Scripture was 1 Samuel 28
God had stopped answering Saul and he got desperate for guidance. At this point, Saul should have asked himself, or those around him – “Why has God abandoned me?” Even though the kingdom had been torn from him, and there was no hope to restore his reign – he still could have sincerely repented and made things right between him and God and him and David. It would have still been his time to receive the consequences for his past actions, but he could have stood before God and others forgiven and restored. This is what David had been seeking through every interaction that he has had with Saul.
Instead he turned to a medium to contact Samuel for him. Mediums, Spiritualists, and Fortune Tellers cannot talk to the dead. People who say that they can talk to the dead are really talking to evil spirits or demons. They contact a demon that impersonates the dead person that they want to hear from. So, when God intervenes and takes over what the woman was trying to do, that terrified the woman. God interrupted her seance and told Saul his fate. Saul would die in battle the next day.
Repent when God calls you. Restore relationships when you can. Trust God and his timing when you are afraid. Know that because of Jesus' obedience and faithfulness we have hope of salvation, life, and peace.

Prayer Request for Abby Mooney

Please join us in praying for Abby Mooney, the 40-year-old granddaughter of Don and Jennifer Mooney. Abby has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is scheduled to undergo brain surgery on September 2, 2026, in Boise, Idaho.

We are praying first and foremost that the Lord’s will would be done and that He would surround Abby, her family, and the medical team with His peace and presence.

Our specific prayer is that:

The Lord would give the doctors, surgeons, nurses, and entire medical staff strength, wisdom, skill, and steady hands throughout what is expected to be a 12-hour surgery.
The tumor would be carefully and completely removed.
Abby’s optic and motor skills would be fully protected and unaffected by the surgery.
The Lord would guide every decision made during the procedure.
Abby would experience God’s peace, comfort, and strength before, during, and after surgery.
God would give Don, Jennifer, Abby, and the entire family peace and confidence in Him, trusting His goodness and sovereignty.
Please keep Abby and the Mooney family in your prayers over the coming days, especially on September 2nd as she undergoes this lengthy and difficult surgery.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid… for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

Thank You for being a Praying Church!
