Tame Your Tongue, by Evangelist Dr. Billy Graham

"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
—James 1:26

The problems of the world could be solved overnight if men could get victory over their tongues. Suppose there was no anger, no profanity, no lying, no grumbling or complaining; suppose there were no dirty stories told, no unjust criticism—what a different world this would be! The Bible teaches that a man who can control his tongue can control his whole personality. We should ask ourselves three questions before we speak: Is it true? Is it kind? Does it glorify Christ? If we would always think before we speak, there would be much less evil speaking, and there would soon be a spiritual awakening that would sweep the church in America.

Today's Prayer
May I remember how important it is to keep a check on my tongue. I pray that my conversation this day will be pleasing in Your sight, Lord.

Devotional by Evangelist John Hagee

Give me neither poverty nor riches—feed me with the food allotted to me.

Jesus instructed us to pray that God will give us our daily bread – not weekly, monthly, or only for Easter or Christmas.

Daily bread sustains us through today to give us what we need, when we need it, no more and no less, right on time. What if God had shared our whole lives with us in advance? If He had explained it all ahead of time, many of us would have politely declined. Being a wise and sovereign God, He simply asked us to believe Him for today, to trust Him with our needs for now.

And day after day, He proved that we could count on Him to lead us safely. How did we navigate the low valley of the shadow of death? With daily bread. How did He take us over mountains too high to climb? With daily bread. How did He lead us through battles we had no courage to fight? With daily bread.

This daily bread satisfies the hunger of our souls. It quenches the thirsting of our hearts. It heals the broken places in our lives. It brings strength to the weary and weak. It fills the frightened with courage and confidence. We can count on Him to feed us exactly what we need for today.

Blessing: May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Open up His Word to collect the manna that He sends you today. May His Word be a lamp to guide you and a light to keep you from stumbling on the path.

Today's Bible Reading:

Old Testament - Exodus 17:8-19:15
New Testament - Matthew 22:33-23:12
Psalms & Proverbs - Psalm 27:8-14, Proverbs 6:27-35

For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel [will be] your rereward. ( Isaiah 52:12 )

Never need the bride of Christ, when arrayed in her battledress, proceed anxiously to meet the enemy. Nor shall she flee from villainous hoards, defeated and brought low. She is the queen of God's right hand and ever shall He protect her comings and goings, guarding her both before and behind, and ever granting her sword arm the full measure of His omnipotent strength. Rejoice in the Lord! Rejoice in your strength!

Another of the many wonderful promises of the Lord.....the Word of God says.... Aide in me, as I also abide in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in me.

We cannot do anything without the Lord. He is the vine; and just as the branches receive their life-giving nutrients through the vine, so we as Christians receive the things we need for life from Christ. When a branch is apart from its source of life, it is dead. And so it is with us-until we are grafted onto that eternal and life-giving vine of Christ. We abide in Christ by our faith in Him and the salvation he offers. By this faith, even we shall bear fruit.

Another of the many wonderful promises of the Lord....the Word of God says.....As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. ( Psalm 103:12 )

God's forgiveness is immeasurable! Though we be drowned in sin-though we be true sons of Adam steeped in iniquity-God will ever draw His people into His fold and cleanse them from the death-stain of their corruption. Rest in the Lord's forgiveness and go forth in new righteousness!

09/16/2022

Another of the many wonderful promises of the Lord....the Word of God says.....And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. ( Jeremiah 31:34 )

One beauty of the Covenant of Grace is this: we are promised intimate and familial knowledge of our Lord. No longer is He a God far-removed, approachable by a chosen few. No, in the New Covenant we are all kings and priests and are granted, in Christ, the most intimate access to the Father's throne-indeed, even access to the Father's ear by our prayers!

The Word of God says.....Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

Your hunger shall be filled. Your thirst shall be quenched. Ever shall the child of righteousness be sated for the Lamb is his food and his drink. Christ is the living manna and the living water. The Christian feasts upon His body, broken for us, and His blood, shed for our sake. So go, O believer, in the power of the cross! Go forth and proclaim His life to all the nations until He comes again, that they too might taste the fullness of righteousness!

The Word of God says.....For He is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us; (Ephesians 2:14)

The unity in Christ is far beyond that which men might craft. It is promised that all Abraham's seed, both Jew and Gentiles alike, are truly of one body-a body of faith! Love your brothers in Christ. Leap to aid each other even as Christ Himself leapt to save you-at His own peril. This is the Gospel.

The Word of God says....Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:12)

Truly the child of faith should rejoice in His persecution for in it, he shall find union with Christ! O what beautiful, grim mystery that we, the church, should find our identity in the death of Christ-and by being found in His death we shall likewise be found in His resurrection! Rejoice! And live!

The Word of God says....And if you be Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:29)

Whether we are Jew or Gentile, enslaved or free, male or female, so long as we are Christians then we are of Abraham's seed which God so long ago promised. So long as we find our identity in Christ, the True Seed of promise, we are the spiritual descendants of Abraham.

The Word of God says...For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endures to all generations. (Psalm 100:5)

Never need the child of God fear the failure of the heavenly promise for the Lord is unto everlasting. He is. And was. And ever will be. And He is faithful! Faithful to the fulfilment of every good thing! Faithful to His eternal promise of the redemption, justification, sanctification, and glorification of His chosen people! Take heart and enjoy well the Sabbath rest bought us by Christ!

The Word of God says.....He is near that justifies me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me. (Isaiah 50:8)

Who can stand before the might of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah? None. Who can thwart the plans of the very Creator of the Heavens? None. And who could steal a single child from the hand of the conquering Lamb Himself? Why none at all! There is no foe so great or force so terrifying as to hold any sway over the Son of God! Take comfort in the strength of His arm and know to a certainty that if He is for you, then, truly, none can be against you (cf. Romans 8:31).

09/13/2022

The Word of God says.....Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. (Jude 1:24-25)

By the grace and mercy of the Father, the believer is kept from stumbling to destruction during the long journey of life and will be presented blameless and pure before the throne of God. As followers of Christ, we must keep ourselves in the love of God as we anxiously wait for the return of the Messiah. During this time of waiting, we are promised that God will keep us in His hands and we will not stumble away from His great purpose. Instead, nothing will sn**ch us away (John 10:29) and we will reside with Him for eternity!

The Word of God says.....The LORD will not allow the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casts away the substance of the wicked. (Proverbs 10:3)

Take confidence in this, dear believer: in the very suffering of the righteous lies the mystery of gospel victory. Sure enough, Christ's church is sore oppressed upon this earth. Just as even He was-for a servant is not greater than his master. By His righteous suffering, our eternal victory was bought and by our suffering for righteousness's sake, we glory in that same victory! Though in our days upon this earth, we may indeed perish from starvation, that is not an end which we should fear. We ought look forward to the heavenly consummation of our lives-when at long last we will be truly free from famishment. When at long last we will no longer hold to the promises of unshakable victory by faith alone, but will apprehend such by unfettered sight! O come Lord Jesus, come!

The Word of God says.....So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before You. Nevertheless I am continually with You, You have held me by my right hand. You shalL guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. (Psalm 73:22-24)

As Christians, we still sin and act foolishly, but God continues to be with us and guide us onto the right path. After our life is through, He takes us to heaven to live eternally with Him! O, what great grace we have been given

09/13/2022

Another of the many wonderful promises of the Lord.....the Word of God says.....For all the promises of God in Him are yes, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. ( 2 Corinthians 1:20 )

God keeps His promises. No matter what His promise may be, He will keep it-and it will be a "Yes" in Christ. Because of His faithfulness through Christ, our proper response should be "Amen," in order that we give Him glory. This should be the goal of all who believe-the further glory of God.

09/12/2022

Another of the many wonderful promises of the Lord.....the Word of God says....For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. ( Psalm 91:11 )

As we abide in the light of our Father, we are given protection beyond all comprehension. These heavenly angels are encamped all about us as they guard our every path throughout this life. Indeed, absolutely nothing shall ever prevail against us as we walk in the light! For He is our rock! He is our mighty fortress!

09/10/2022

Another of the many wonderful promises of the Lord....the Word of God says...What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? ( Romans 8:31 )

Fear not, O believer, for there is nothing to stand against you! All potential powers and enemies pale in significance to the power of God. No mere creation can threaten to undo the work and will of its Creator. God is sovereign. He holds all things in the palm of His hand, He does whatsoever He wills to do. And He loves you! Therefore rejoice, for while God is for you, O child of faith, nothing can truly be against you. And He is with you to everlasting.
